PoW, proof of burn, or payment for relay access and PoW to reply. Solving by heuristics at a relay level is difficult.

Amethyst is the best android client I've found. It still regularly crashes but I'm sure stability will improve over time.

This is still an issue with the latest release. I reloaded the application after a month and it fetched a single post after a 10 minute refresh. I'm sorry I don't have the time to dig into the issue further; just wanted to let you know. Amethyst is working fine.
