I love my local coffee shop. I love the owners, I love the space, and I love the people that make it what it is.

But I hate this 3rd wave coffee trend of light and sour tasting roasts that have too much caffeine and upset my stomach.

I prefer Starbucks or common gas station dark roast coffee over these brews, but I want to support my local coffeeshop

Are there still places with vibes anymore? Or did the internet kind of kill it?

I feel like digital spaces have vibes. Nostr has a vibe for sure, but everywhere I go (in America at least) feels flat, steril and homogenous now.

People like to pretend otherwise, romanticizing local charm and it’s fun to do so, but in reality there is no meaningful difference between New York, LA, Chicago, Austin, Miami etc…

The differences feel increasingly superficial. Miami with its neon pink and bad Latin art. New York with its identical minimalist cafes selling identical oat lattes. These aren’t cities anymore, they’re brands. “Keep Austin Weird” feels less like the rallying cry of a bohemian collective and more like a safe corporate brand slogan.

It wasn’t always like this. Cities used to incubate true subcultures that couldn’t thrive anywhere else. Seattle once had grunge music emerging organically from local clubs, distinct in sound and attitude. Detroit was a birthplace for techno and industrial grit that couldn’t have been manufactured. New Orleans had jazz clubs and vibrant local traditions that permeated every street corner authentically. Before the internet collapsed distances, you could sense deep authenticity upon arriving somewhere new. The vibe wasn’t something designed by marketing departments; it was organically woven into the streets, the people, the music, and local myths.

Now, vibes feel engineered and commoditized, reduced to Instagrammable moments and easily replicable aesthetics. I once watched from the balcony of my hotel in Nashville as 200 women waited in line to take the same stupid picture with the same stupid set of angel wings.

Digital spaces, ironically, have become refuges of uniqueness, fostering communities unburdened by geographical homogenization. Platforms like nostr host unique niche communities, from hyper-specific gaming bitcoin cultural milieu to obscure philosophical discussions, that retain genuinely distinctive vibes.

Perhaps we’re now entering a strange inversion, where real-world spaces chase digital popularity, adopting blandness to maximize broad appeal.

In this inversion, digital worlds might become the primary spaces where unique vibes survive, thrive, and multiply—leaving our physical world as little more than a flattened reflection of what used to be.

Nostr is where the vibes are at.

Nostr has a fantastic vibe, but please let it not be so that we lose the glory of in-person gathering places.

America has completely failed in its culture of design and public QOL. It is a tragedy, but I hold out it can be fixed. We need to break down a bunch of stupid rules and regulations around building so we can get creative again. It does come down, in a sense, to the quality of space that we surround ourselves with. America is largely a sprawling eyesore when it comes to this, so your opinion is well founded

I have one, nostr:npub1uense4apn73tvh4u20tzlp6u72g4kdustzsm0k0sqy6yuwh5jxlsy97y76 has two, his have 250k, and 150k miles on them. Mine has 320k miles. I want a new ride, but not one with GPS tracking/computer. So, I will have to settle for used, and old.

Well, yea I have two. I’m still driving around a 2004 pickup with 234k and a ‘08 TDI with 200k that I’ll have a real hard time getting rid of. Both manual.

But I’ll tell you, I’m really ready for that highway self-driving. I just won’t give it all up yet.

Do these even exist anymore? I’m just looking for a practical improvement on the Golf Cart, a 4-cylinder engine car that gets 85mpg, or an open source Full Self Driving Infrastructure.

Is that too much to ask🤨

I was thoroughly entertained by Grok voice mode on a long solo car ride. I didn’t care about my data, it was quite hilarious and actually stimulating to hear its comebacks and creativity.

Unhinged mode is outrageous. I appreciate a good shit talking, but even I had to ask it to tone it down and use some more creative and less vulgar language. Hilarious.

Reminded me of using AOL IM and cursing out the chatbots, except that Grok will strike back and truly humble you and challenge a clever response from you. What a world.

I would like to see true P2P mesh networking technology come back as a means of communication when the internet is not available.

My favorite kids show; Gravity Falls. I appreciate the cunning and cleverness it takes to make a quality show, that doesn't exploit all the easy crudeness of adult only humor. This show is a great watch for all.

Trust your body, it always knows😏

My tax plan going forward has been to not pay any until they get their shit together. We’ll see if he really pulls through and helps the little guys.

I would really like to think Elon is NOT the tyrannical overlord he’s being played out as. I think he can be insensitive and insulting at times, but I don’t discredit him as a person or try to denigrate him.

I mean, it’s good to hear from Elon’s lips, but why do we have this quiet vein of Hitler sympathizing, and toying with the Nazi party happening right now?

Do we really not have a strong enough social fabric to resist this kind of pandering? Or am I missing something?
