just tried playing the fretless bass over one of those YouTube practice tracks.
it feels good to play this instrument, because i can play what's approximately right and bend it.
i have muscle memory of where the frets are on a regular bass/guitar so i'm pretty close most of the time and i was able to play something musical within a few minutes.
feels good
UNBOXING VIDEO
5-minute unedited unboxing of the Harley Benton B-35BK-FL fretless semiacoustic bass guitar that i just received
it's a budget model, but it looks pretty nice
unboxing with one hand while holding a phone was a challenge, but i just wanted to share the moment, since you usually don't see this unglamorous part on YouTube... π
the fretless bass guitar arrived. looks like it didn't get abused too much during shipping.

delivery guy said he'd be here with the fretless bass in 2-3 minutes, so i'm waiting out by the entrance

this video about fake props from big Hollywood movies shows you how much of "this looks impressive" is just companies hiring graphic designers:

"the company didn't actually do it. just look at this Hollywood print shop that did it just as easily."
it feels like your pay level is connected more with the amount of bullshit you can come up with than actual effort at times...
my gay friend in Trondheim works the night shift at a nursing home for disabled people. he says there's usually very little work to do since they mostly sleep. they just need someone to be there in case something happens. so he kills time on the Internet a lot. i'm not sure this is so much better than being on welfare... he kind of joked that his job is almost like being on welfare, except with better pay.

it wouldn't be entirely wrong to describe me as skilled but not working π€£
currently sitting here trying to work out how airport signage people think.
when i landed at Oslo Airport today, i got confused, because a sign said the following:
English: "Gates"
Norwegian: "Exit"
me: *walks toward Exit*
sign there: "Transfer"
hm no, i want to get out of the airport. i'm not on connecting flights.
i also don't have checked-in baggage, so i just want to leave.
eventually, i realised that i'd have to walk toward the baggage collection area, despite having no checked-in baggage.
later, the signs said walk to the exit. but at that point, it was too late to be useful.
why the fuck did they translate "gates" (where you board the plane) as "utgang" (Exit)? what the hell?

nostr:npub1ufnt8gpxg4gxuqf5t7zluuydn03z5mtn6hr978pctewrwc00n53s4cjuc4 i was riding with my friend in Trondheim down a motorway the other day and a sign looked like this
| ThisCity
|/ SomewhereTown
|
|
|
"ah, there is an exit and it goes to SomewhereTown"
nope. the exit was somehow for ThisCity, not SomewhereTown.
why put ThisCity further away from the bit in the graphic that shows the exit? it makes no sense...
nostr:npub1ufnt8gpxg4gxuqf5t7zluuydn03z5mtn6hr978pctewrwc00n53s4cjuc4 the laws are made for people who see the forest for just the trees
i'm really bad at seeing trees, so i can't memorise hundreds of trees (traffic rules). i'd pass the forest test easily, and work out the rest from that, i think.

nostr:npub1jhuk93p4cj9lwyx58pjxc8dt568drym2djyy2qhx0u8dawlskl7s2fxhwd i kind of get angry at this attitude that Scandinavians have because i'm not a good fit for that. i heavily DO need to help and to be helped.

when reflecting upon how the world works, people usually have some point where they draw the line, and say to themselves "if i went further with that line of thinking, the world would seem more absurd than i'm prepared to accept without collapsing mentally. i'd lose too much."
in other words: "let's not go there"
personally, i'm at "i think this world is a bit of a joke" and am acting accordingly.
nostr:npub15crs2zc75dzh4yask7dwt604nh20n3zp2caclm7lw5cxa9hafkfsnnlew0 i doubt you'd change your views if i tried to explain, so i'm just going to leave it at that. that i'm feeling that you're wrong on too many levels, so it's not worth it to put in the effort - and you'd probably not change your mind anyway.
long story short: i don't like your attitude.
nostr:npub15crs2zc75dzh4yask7dwt604nh20n3zp2caclm7lw5cxa9hafkfsnnlew0 you're too narrow-minded
financially speaking, this does not feel like a fair trade.
a big chunk of the extra money i had this month disappeared just because i decided to visit him.
i don't get the impression that he worried much about eating out and such.
basically, i paid a lot more, percentage-wise, to go to Trondheim, than he did to host me.
