If Canada and the United States can be separate nations without being denounced as being in a state of impermissible “anarchy,” why may not the South secede from the United States? New York State from the Union? New York City from the state? Why may not Manhattan secede? Each neighborhood? Each block? Each house? Each person?

In the first place, secession—the breaking up of a State from within—is a great good in itself for any libertarian. It means that a giant central State is being broken up into constituent parts; it means greater competition between governments of different geographical areas, enabling people of one State to zip across the border to relatively greater freedom more easily; and it exalts the mighty libertarian principle of secession, which we hope to extend on down from the region to the city to the block to the individual.

people love to shit on me for this be we are 90% done it, its just taking a long time because we have to setup an api server for the first time, track subscribers, validate apple receipts, setup a bank account. Annoying fiat crap. It’s no longer a simple nostr client with no non-relay server dependencies which is sad. We are also pushing many new features and apps atm (push notifications, local search, notecrumbs preview, nostrdb upgrades). It’s just me and daniel who is working part time. Glad tony is doing great, guess he’s better than everyone else 🎉.

Nostr wouldn’t be where it is without Damus. If this project were to get phased out, that would be a massive blow to Nostr.

Speaking strictly from Primal’s perspective, we *need* projects like Damus to be successful. If we are to make a credible argument that Nostr is different from the legacy platforms, users need to have many good choices of clients and services.

One year is a long time in Nostr terms, and I am optimistic that Will and the team will figure this out. But if/when Damus and other projects introduce paid tiers, please consider the bigger picture when deciding whether to sign up. You won’t be making a decision just for yourself. At this early stage your support might help some projects survive, as well as change the trajectory of Nostr itself.

Yeah, but like even more today than usual

I’ve been reflecting on my core beliefs about nostr. Today we have a simple protocol and some high quality apps which enable us to use nostr together. That’s wonderful and, imo, the right way to instigate a new ecosystem from scratch!

However, I think nostr may succeed fastest when it’s able to orchestrate reading/writing of all Internet messages a person wants to read/write. A lot of discussion assumes people have to adopt ecosystem clients for nostr to succeed, but I’m not so sure.

Instead of requiring everyone to adopt it directly (and changing publishing behavior to new nostr-focused apps), I wonder if we consider it from the perspective of an infrastructure. Can we aggregate all existing messages from the internet that a person wants to read? Can we publish once to all important destinations that someone wants to write?

Who has explored these ideas so far?
