1. No
2. No
3. LoRa, meshtastic and LoRaWAN.
4. Sort of. I used a LoStik to transmit simulated temperature, pressure, humidity and CO2 levels to a LoRaWAN gateway
5. None; I'm interested in unlicensed bands
6. I'd be interested in learning more about how to build my own Meshtastic-compatible device. Both a standalone pager and one yat can pair with a mobile device. From design, to implementation to flashing firmware.
To anyone who found me because I use the #prepper or #prepping, it's probably not as exciting as you've been led to believe.
It means being prepared to take care of yourself and your family. This means farming, sewing and mending, community building, cooking and preserving food, fixing things around the house, rainwater collection, and things like this.
It may involve stereotypical activities like hunting and first aid, but that's the only a small part of it.
If your plan is to use guns alone to survive, you are not prepared. Your only plan is to leech off people who are prepared. Don't be that guy.

Lets get a party going.

They obviously interviewed some red teams that have a very narrow mode of operation. The red teams I have been part of test individual controls and then try to chain them together for maximum impact.
It's part of setting up the engagement. People seldom want a zero knowledge, outside in approach. It's a waste of money. So I guess if you say this is the only approach a red team can take, then sure, I agree with the article.
Next time I'll shut the machine down before I walk away.
#infosec
Do all people infosec try to lock their sewing machine before getting up to go to the bathroom, as if it were a computer?
I legit though "hmm, how do I lock this thing?" for like 2 or 3 seconds before I realized I was sitting in a chaitr working on a project, but NOT using a computer. 😲
For those who are still wondering what the answer is, I walked away from my work station without locking anything.
I'm going to a 2600 meeting tomorrow. I expect inflation might come up and I plan on suggesting #bitcoin as a way to cope. Save in BTC, spend in fiat (for now), get paid in both (for now).
"If you don't pay for the product, you are the product" is such a quaint thought in 2023; they're going to make you product even if you pay. Capitalism doesn't leave money on the table.
Tonight I am mending and improving. First a duvet cover (it didn't have any ties in the corners), then the duvet (surprise, it didn't have any loops on the corners), and now 4 pairs of jeans that need holes patched.
When people talk about #homesteading, #repair, #sustainability or being #economical, mending is a non-trivial part of it. People might not always mention it, but they should.
Every household should have at least one person who knows how to sew.
Jnco jeans, rollerblades, and a purple hoodie.
That reminds me of this...
They were going door to door asking if anyone knew any scientists. I said "Look no further!"
They asked me if I knew anything about power plants. I said "as much as anyone I had ever met."
They asked me how well I understood theoretical physics. I said "I have a theoretical degree in physics."
They said "welcome aboard".
If you don't get the reference, it's fantastic, from Fallout: New Vegas. It's one of the best games I have ever played.

I think Mozilla stills deserves to be on the list. They are not infallible, but without them we wouldn't have librewolf.
You're right though, they are not alone
I'm doing the Lords work and trying to get people to use a password manager without putting all their passwords in the cloud. LastPass demonstrated how unsafe that is.
I want people to have the tools to protect themselves, because we can see every day that the companies aren't going to do it, and then they're going to blame us when they fail. They are the ones who decided to have people use passwords for authentication instead of something stronger, and it's not like they didn't know people reuse passwords, so the company certainly shoukd be holding themselves accountable.
Wow, this is an amazing post that explains why #Mozilla remains a beacon of hope in the era of "everything online is a corporate service".
I expect this take will be popular here among the people who want to #decentralize everything.

To be crystal clear, I like:
- .onion sites (and use them regularly)
- i2p
- IPFS
- having the ability to run my own DNS server on a standalone network or non-routed VPN
Oh and BTW, I also run a project that makes mesh networks, so the standalone network point hits extra hard for me.
I run my own DNS servers and hijack other people's domains on my network (to black hole the big advertiser domains).
I also run my own PKI, which includes a CA server to sign local TLS certs.
So I don't see DNS as being as centralized on the same level as "Google".
Sure, there are root nameservers which are typically consulted to find the next hop in the chain. And yes, it'd be nice to replace this first hop with something else that is equally easy to remember. It just doesn't seem nearly as high priority to me as getting people away from Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft...
