Trail running + native plants

When are we going to be able to share smells via #nostr ? The honeysuckles around here are amazing right now! #nosestr (see what I did there? 🀣)

I hope it helps!! I use a similar one before most runs, but you can use it anytime. I just sit on a chair and roll it underfoot. I usually set my other foot on top of the one I'm rolling just to tack a little more weight on without having to force with the bottom foot, if that makes sense. Good luck!

Lol, thanks! I love birds! I tried out #birdstr as a thing awhile ago but got pushback, haha. Maybe it can happen yet! πŸ¦πŸ¦†πŸ¦‰

That's fair. And it can be especially difficult if one feels like the only person in earshot of the kids telling them it's not *all* doom and gloom.

As if spending a couple of hours trotting through the woods on a beautiful day weren't enough to start my long weekend off right, today I spotted a male Scarlet Tanager for the first time ever!! πŸ˜ƒ Wow, it was so much more...well, *scarlet*...than even a male cardinal! Of course it was up in the trees, but the call confirmed it for sure. I wish all of you a spot of joy like that today! Here are some pretty sun-dappled woods, since I didn't snap the tanager...

Overnight oats are my recent breakfast fave. Today I am happy to report that "long run oats," where it sits only for the length of the warmup + long run (today approximately 3 hours) are nearly as good. πŸ‘ And *just as* good, if you also consider the appetite built up from a long run. 😁 πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ#runstr #foodstr

The zeitgeist *among young people* may be that the future will be bleak...but raising/educating a generation of youth to believe the future is doom does a disservice to them and everyone else, I think. A commencement speech (and a difficult job for adults/educators in general) should take them out of that headspace and help them get back on the path of hope and even optimism, without obscuring truth, but also not getting hung up on catastrophizing. There is still a lot of good in the world that exists and more to be done. 😊

Um, @dave - why are you ignoring my question?

Hey @dave - why are geese so mean?

"Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth." ― Henry David Thoreau, Walden

Right now, it is the season of green, the season of growth, of hopes and dreams, of harvests to come. Dream on, nostriches.

It's native to basically the entire Eastern U.S. I'm in the mid-Atlantic region. I grabbed a couple that had fallen from a tree and stuck them in my trail running vest on a run last summer, haha. Hoping to snag more this year!

Pawpaw is amazing! Don't understand why it's not grown more, being such a delicious, exotic-seeming-yet-native fruit!

Sorry to hear the foot is still troubling you! I know how much it pains a runner not to run. πŸ™ Glad you're getting some good cross training though! I'm telling you, the nubby ball is so much better than a tennis ball...and stretch/foam roll your calves a lot. πŸ‘

The ones in our neighborhood know that they're *not* in danger...to the detriment of all of my plants, grrr. πŸ˜†

No, I usually see them on county/state land...don't think I'm allowed to. πŸ˜• Do you?

Exactly. And everyone has faith in *something,* religious or not. You sort of have to, in order to not go insane and continue to operate in the world. Some things, we just accept to make sense/order out of the world -- different things for different people. For me, the journey started when I lost faith in some of the things I didn't even realize I had "faith" in until I didn't anymore, haha. Without those anchors, I felt adrift and now I'm searching for new ones. Here goes!
