Trail running + native plants

Fascinating thread! It seems many religions do some "abrogating," whether they acknowledge it or not. Being on a bit of a faith journey myself, I recently raided my grandmother's library (with permission!) and am currently reading What the Great Religions Believe (1964) by Joseph Gaer. It seems like a useful overview, and is helping me see a lot of connections/commonalities between what initially seem like very different faiths.

There's a lot of uncertainty in my world right now, but it's still so good to take our regular walk to the river and enjoy the baby animals. Even if you're struggling to find settled, contented, happiness, that doesn't mean you can't experience moments of innocent joy throughout the day. In fact, they're more important than ever. ❀

We have some irises still, but they are on the way out. Plus blue stars (amsonia) but those aren't as popular.

Does anyone else choose their running route based on what's in bloom around town and who has the best flowers?? πŸ˜‚

This time of year peonies and roses are the stars around here. And here is a closeup of my blue false indigo. 😁

This morning I was running, as I often am, and I saw this man walking, which I often do. He typically doffs his cap and says, "Good morning, young lady," and I reply with a big smile and a "good morning" in return. But today he stopped and said, "I just want you to know, I've learned a lot from you about stoicism. Thank you. We don't have to talk more than this, but that's all you need to know. Peace."

I was surprised, replied with something dumb like "thank you," and then continued on my way, but I was touched. As I search for purpose for my time on Earth, and people keep saying that we underestimate the many small impacts we make on an everyday basis, to learn that I had somehow positively affected this man just through my regular routine without even knowing it was heartwarming.

I guess now I'd better go learn something about stoicism.

This green milkweed at our local park is so cool! Not sure I'd ever seen this variety before. Especially as pollinator season is picking up, it's wonderful to see more and more people and municipalities planting pollinator-supporting natives.

Do you have one of those golf-ball sized nubby massage balls? They are *clutch* for plantar fasciitis.

Saw a whole patch of these cute white trilliums on a wetland walk while visiting family in the Midwest, which I don't really see where I am now. Plus some native geraniums, which I do also have. So fun to go other places and explore their nature. πŸ™‚

I also saw *tons* of birds, including Baltimore Orioles and Common Yellowthroats, which I'd never seen before...but they didn't sit still for good pics. πŸ˜†

Some "volunteer" plants are a nuisance, others are a pleasant surprise. This is a case of the latter -- I think this is a sunflower from a seed I planted last year that didn't germinate next to some mint I transplanted from the farm where I volunteer. #plantstr #grownostr #pleasantsurprises

First zinnia bloom of the year at my house! πŸ˜ƒ Not quite fully open...but I try to appreciate every stage of the process. πŸ™‚

Super cute! (BTW, seems like #catstr is a thing - for future posts.) Welcome! #plebchain

Plants spotted on my trail run...violet wood sorrel, bluets, star of Bethlehem. On a quick lookup, sounds like the Bethlehem has a complex story...it can be toxic, but is used by homeopaths (carefully!) for some ailments. Any of my #permies people have more insight?

Great exploratory trail tour on some new (to me) trails this morning. Nothing like some riverside running to calm the psyche. I hope y'all are having a relaxing (or productive, whatever suits) Sunday afternoon.

GN, nostriches. Nothing like a backyard campfire (after a big day of gardening) for quality time with my person (and our cat). πŸ₯° #grownostr #grateful
