I have been thinking of the best way to get people I know on Nostr in a way that avoids the UX and data availability issues, or at least minimizes them. I don’t think non-tech savvy non-Bitcoiners can handle paying in bitcoin for a relay on top of the other issues you mention.

Maybe us as first wave Nostriches with tech skills should take it upon ourselves to run a relay or two just for our friends and family? They can choose any Nostr client and if they only connect to your relays then maybe the experience will be more consistent and we can keep them out of Global too which might be a good thing for some people 😂

I have two rpi nodes running Umbrel. Constantly going down or offline but did manage to route sats sometimes. Spun up a Start9 node on my old thinkpad a few months ago, much more stable. Only problem is no Tailscale vpn solution.
