The kind of money I use isn't worth wasting my precious time on earth thinking about, except to be wary of pitfalls and to try to choose the least awful situation.

I don't think an argument about whether dog shit or bird shit tastes better is really worth engaging in.

On the other hand, free speech is extremely important, and that doesn't have to require any special currency.

The people who serve mammon want to attach their currency (whether it be dollars or bitcoin or whatever) to literally everything, though, because they care about nothing other than getting rich quick without actually working.

Discuss any topic, and the people here will immediately discuss how they can do it with bitcoin.

"Oh cool, you went traveling? Yeah, I imagine someday we'll be able to travel without needing fiat, it'll all be bitcoin!"

"The weather is nice where you are? Yeah, I bet we could crowdsource more accurate forecasts by using bitcoin donations"

"Oh wow, that post you just made about was great, I really wish I could zap you right now but you don't have a wallet set up!"

Etc.

Hey guys, I have an idea!

Let's take a problem that was solved 20 years ago, and solve it again but with a gay retarded cryptocoin I just made up!

I might make a relay or at least some sort of filtering capabilities that automatically blocks any mention of zaps or bitcoin, but then I'd be throwing out 99% of this place's traffic.

Nothing of value would be lost, though.

Take it however you like, but I'll remind everyone here that, once again, a Nostr thread has been turned into "bitcoin vs fiat" - just like every other conversation around here.

You people can't think of anything else. It occupies the deepest recesses of your mind.

I own zero cryptocurrency of any kind.

This is what I'm talking about with Nostr. No matter what you say, eventually people come in and start talking about shitcoins.

They should just make Nostr all be on one big, happy blockchain with a big, happy Nostrcoin and be done with it.

IPFS has had a lot of hype, but there are significant drawbacks to it. I don't know specifics, but I think they have a hard time getting the block size (smallest possible amount of transfer) right.

The other downside is that you have to run a server locally, but I'm sure a genius will figure out how to just do that in the browser like everything else.

They're on the right track, but I imagine if it gains traction that it will turn into another RIAA/MPAA witch hunt to effectively kill it.

Interplanetary Filesystem, basically a P2P filesharing protocol that addresses content based on IDs (like hashes) instead of location (like a webserver URL)

If IPFS could ever be performant, it would be a pretty good candidate for decentralized media upload/sharing.

True, and the trick to being ruled instead of free, no matter where you flee to, is to avoid questioning who is in charge of the people in charge of you

"Well, I guess Klaus Schwab and the WEF aren't *that* bad...Right cryptobros?"

"...Guys...?"

They said I could be anything I want, so I became a guy on the internet who tells people things they don't want, but need, to hear
