I don't know if Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, and other European leaders are even aware of what they are getting into when they unthinkingly announce retaliation and a trade war with the US.
Personally, I think Europe is being led by a bunch of total charlatans who have no idea what is really going on. The other day in Davos we heard Ursula and Trump - these are two completely opposite visions of the future. Trump talked about a country that values merit, and Ursula about "our values" that Europe will "fight" for. According to her, "our values" are climate change, gender equality (whatever that means to her - which means imposing gender quotas) and similar virtue signaling platitudes that she repeats in every speech.
This is precisely why Europe has been stagnating economically for more than 10 years and why today it cannot be an equal partner in discussions on any major global problem.
