True, it very well could be more. Not easy to verify. Yes it’s very strange the reaction people have to bitcoin. I’ve been sub 10% effective at orange pilling people I’ve spoken with, which is much higher than the general 1% across the wider population.
#bitcoin takes so much time and energy to grasp; you have to reason through every single doubt you have about it to even take the first step. Most don’t put in the work, and I think most won’t.
Re population numbers: for a community that emphasizes “running the numbers” I’ve often wondered why this doesn’t come up during how-do-we-scale conversations. The only one I recall saying something other than the official 8 billion is nostr:npub1qg8j6gdwpxlntlxlkew7eu283wzx7hmj32esch42hntdpqdgrslqv024kw when he said, “how do we scale to a billion people?” Don’t know if he has a particular view on this. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone really discuss this regardless of what main community they are involved in

I had a very difficult time closing my 401k a few years ago a few months into the lockdowns. Vanguard literally was giving me an inquisition and basically yelling at me. I was so naive at the time and told them I was going to put the money into bitcoin. It was such a jarring and disillusioning experience that it motivated me to keep going so I could better understand everything that was happening at the time. Would be really cool because they could be much more transparent than on other platforms and share the detailed results with everyone to see instead of just keep that hidden on the platforms. You could drill down and see who, and how everyone voted. Could be very powerful.
E.g. it might be easier to see what a “rough consensus“ might look like for a soft fork.
