Got a second bed finally finished! The first bed has overflows to the second bed so that when monsoons hit the sheeting water should (in theory) flow from one bed to the next but the berms behind the sunken beds should help absorb and store more water and keep the soil wet. Our native soil is a sandy loam, barely loam, so there will be good drainage. According to the drillers reports of the surrounding area wells there is clay starting a few feet down which should also help keep the water on our property rather then just running out to the wash below us, especially once we install swells on the property.
Three beds down, nine to go.
Oh, that's sad. I lived in an area that also didn't have many for a decade, I missed them so much. My husband and I were both excited about monsoons and the accompanying thunderstorms when we moved here.
Creating and preparing garden beds is so much nicer when there's a light breeze and a thunderstorm rolling in! How are your garden beds looking?

GM, Nostr! We've been busy the last few days helping out some friends. But we're back to working on getting the rest of our garden in now that we're past any chance of freezing!
I'm loving it too! Our garden is loving the rain and cooler temps too.
We're going to be visiting my brother in Sahuarita next month, I'm just hoping that the cooler temperatures hold out till then but I'm not holding my breath!
They say it's not monsoons yet but I'm really hoping that the storms stick around until the "start" of monsoon season!

I'm excited! I'm going to listen to a guy tonight that was one of the lawyers for the Bundy's and he's a constitutional lawyer so it should be a good listen. Also it's a out of my comfort zone thing, I'm an introvert and my husband is working tonight so I'm going by myself.
In case you don't know who the Bundy's are, they are a ranching family from the west coast of the US (Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Oregon). They had the federal government come in and try taking their grazing rights on land that they've grazed since prior to it being part of the US. The feds rounded up and killed several heads of their cattle.
They tried to peacefully protest and the feds came in armed and when the protesters started to leave, one of the feds shot and killed one of the protesters. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) tried to say that the Bundy's and the protesters fired first, but their own footage shows that the BLM officer fired first.

Apparently the compost pile is the place to hang out! A nice size blue belly lizard and his blue was so bright!
Nice! That was a good episode! And I saw someone's post right after listening on a local facebook group asking about selling house plants and there was a ton of interest!
That would do it! It's kind of like here, the bush I took a picture of is in a place the cattle can't access easily but the ones where they can are only about a foot (30 cm) tall because they keep eating the plants.
Pale Wolfberry, one of the native wolfberries in the America's. These are growing all over our property. The cattle and wildlife love them so the plants don't get very big but we plan on propagating several in our garden to harvest our own wolfberries.
Wolfberries are in the same family as Goji Berries and have similar uses and nutritional value. I'm actually pretty excited to have these and plan on harvesting a portion to dry for us this year as well as for seed saving.
