There's a bitcoin sale going on- 20% off this week! But only while supply lasts. #buythedip

I have created a transcript of Trump's speech to commemorate this momentous occasion:

"Thank you to so and so, who is an amazing person, truly. So and so has an amazing family. And also whatshisname, he’s here tonight too – and whatshisname is amazing. Just tremendous. Where are you, Whatshisname? Raise your hand. There he is! Whatshisname is here tonight, and he’s just incredible. Oh, and That Guy! Where are you, That Guy? There you are! That Guy has done some tremendous work. Amazing.

Anyway – I don’t want to waste time, we have a lot of important things to talk about. Crypto! We will mint, mine and make all the crypto here, so that China can’t have it. I don’t like China. USA crypto is better than China crypto. You guys are like the steel industry a hundred years ago. Vote for me and I’ll make sure your industry does amazing – just tremendous. And I will stop World War 3! And you will beg me to stop giving you so much electricity. And under my administration, there will be NO MORE HANKY PANKY!

Have fun playing with your bitcoin and your crypto and other things! God bless!"

How are people cheering and applauding this? The guy clearly wouldn't know the difference between bitcoin and a bag of those gold-wrappered chocolate coin candies. Pandering is pandering, but this is worse than expected- and my expectations were low

Lol I'm no genius, but this speech is painfully lacking substance. All four of my brain cells are bored 😅

My thoughts exactly. Poor choice, in my opinion.

Trump speaking at the 2024 bitcoin conference is going mark the beginning of bitcoin's tenure as a distinctly partisan issue; at least when neither party openly embraced it, it didn't come with a political aftertaste. Now left-leaning people will automatically rail against it because of association with Trump, meanwhile trumpers will embrace it without knowing a damn thing about it or why it's important.

But, this was always inevitable, and in the end it will prevail regardless.

I'm with you that the craziness of the child transitioning stuff in the last decade is nuts, and whatever is going on in that parade is weird. That said, homosexuals have always been around and none of us have ever signed up to be so; few people willingly sign up to potentially be ostracized from their communities and their own families, especially in decades past. As someone who realized I wasn't like other girls in middle school, I can assure you the vast majority of us are quite normal and lead normal lives- this parade is not representative; it is a symptom of current political movements. Ever since the T has been added, the LGB community has been hijacked to serve something which has nothing to do with us. But, if you prefer to paint with a broad brush and label us all diseased, so be it.

Happy Halving, everyone :) Miners, may the odds ever be in your favor...

I'm a bitcoiner and a fan of Myrmikin Research. I recently read an older article entitled "The Bitcoin Boom" by Myrmikin, which lays out a compelling argument about why bitcoin's fundamental lack of stability and supply inelasticity is the fatal flaw which ensures gold's continued superiority- framed from a largely Austrian economic perspective. I have never heard this particular argument and wondered if there are any Podcasters out there interested in making a show to providing a couterargument. nostr:npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev maybe? nostr:npub14mcddvsjsflnhgw7vxykz0ndfqj0rq04v7cjq5nnc95ftld0pv3shcfrlx ?

Asking for opinions - I am going to El Salvador in a few days. Those of you who have been there or have a reliable source of knowledge; how safe is it really? Take into consideration we are two somewhat unusual looking females traveling (white, short hair and tattoos) and one of us is a redhead.

Mine too. So far, so good, though - it's been a long bear market and she hasn't left yet and still seems to like me 😄

It's not the case for everyone, but for a lot of people, participating in something that they perceive as bigger than themselves is really important. They want to leave a tiny mark that goes beyond their own life in some way in terms of reach or in terms of time.

Sometimes it's religion, sometimes it's patriotism, sometimes it's a certain political/ideological movement, sometimes it's a professional guild, sometimes it is advancing technology, sometimes it is advancing art, etc. Could be any number of things.

Mine is mixed, but it's basically the intersection of technology and human rights. I want to support technologies like Bitcoin and Nostr and others that empower individualism and human rights. People should be able to engage in transfers of information and commerce largely unrestricted. They should be able to protect themselves from currency dilution. They should be able to do this regardless of their race, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, or whatever, as long as they are not actively trying to hurt others. It should require probable cause and the allocation of deliberate resources and time by authorities to prevent bad people from doing these things, rather than being automatically applied to everyone as a matter of course. And this can't really be asked for; the technology has to be built and shared so that the burden of difficulty is on those trying to make it otherwise.

And for me, that means educating people about these technologies, providing capital or economic guidance to people these technologies, otherwise doing whatever small part I can to help improve the success or adoption of these technologies.

Other than that, I just want to leave my little slice of the world better than I found it. I want to help rather than hurt. I want to beautify rather than destroy. I want to unify differing views through objectivity and open talk and help create collaboration and coexistence, rather than sow unnecessary division. This doesn't scale as well and can't win as decisively as technology can, so it's mainly just my side thing.

What's yours? What is the thing(s) that you want to participate in that are bigger than yourself?

Beautifully said, Lyn.

I'm with you in that I want my life to contribute to leaving the world incrementally better than it was before me. For now, I do that by hosting a local, in-person bitcoin class, I do lots of different odd jobs (mostly handyman stuff) for widows and elderly people, and I try to be the best wife/daughter/person I can be in the meantime. I am trying to stay up to date on freedom tech both so I can use it myself as well as to be a resource for those around me. I'm in school, I'm learning to code, and I'm learning about 3D printing software; I'm hoping to eventually be able to contribute to building on Nostr and Bitcoin and whatever freedom tech that emerges next. I want to be skilled and ready to play my part in our generation's fight against totalitarianism.

I haven't tried out any new wallets lately, but my experience with Ledger leaves a lot to be desired; the buttons and the display are too small, it doesn't allow transaction labeling, and the lanyard connection is poorly designed.
