Waiting for politicians to solve your problems is a fantasy. Life happens here and now.

That's the Cypherpunk strategy

Never did actually, I think most I've spent in Prague was one and half months in one go.

Where can I get a teleport though these days?

There are no lightning stamps. Ecash is bearer asset, lightning does not have anything like that, but it's convertible, it is actually created by paying a lightning invoice. Doing several roundtrips to pay 1 sat (which would be requirement for lightning) is not feasible.

I was checking if Google deretarded their AI.

No they have not.

The problem is also the other side of the transaction. Which he talked about too.

My friend is one of the best hackers in the world and he does not share his PGP key. I asked him why she he said he does not trust that people who communicate with him can protect their endpoints. Having a false sense of privacy then makes things worse.

I don't agree, but I can see what he's talking about. You can be doxxed by the people you transact with.

One of the reasons I liked building on Nostr was that I did not have to run any infrastructure.

Well, I'm running a personal relay now.

I tip the balance towards working less, and spend time with my kid more. Work can wait, the kid will grow up.

I am still waiting for some country to write me a letter that they need help with implementation.

It's actually good it does not use the key used for posting, but it would be cool if we could publish a signed note that ties the normal npub to the keychat identity for discovery. If I added someone to Nostr, having an option to write to them without exchanging some contact information would be good.

They can write me Nostr DM anyway.

But then this could also work for SimpleX and others, essentially rebuilding the identity part of keybase, which was quite a good idea. No need of web of trust if you already got a social reputation - a website, GitHub account, PGP key, Twitter account, ...

Nostr could be the thing that ties it up and does not rely on Keybase corporation which was acquired by Zoom and more or less stopped working on the project.

I published one of those I think! Just for fun. I also published a think tank looking "policy paper" :)

don't get bitten by central bankers

I've been doing the same for over 20 years now, I had an ezine before blogs were a thing. I always found this approach of headlines for the algorithm silly.

The recipe for me is - deliver huge value, if people don't know about it, their loss. If someone finds it valuable, the cheapest way to deliver some value to their friends is to share it with them.

I don't have many listeners or readers, certainly don't write bestsellers, but the satisfaction from the relationship with my audience is something I would never swap for a bunch of normies wanting to know what pumps next week.

over from the bird app via DrNicka:

"I did some digging into this.

It’s real, the EU have put out tenders for people to develop asset register platforms and they do want to force everyone to register all of their valuables in the name of catching money launderers.

Even the CCP haven’t gone to this level of financial surveillance. And I suspect the trend of the EU becoming more like the CCP will continue.

But, I don’t think it has a chance of becoming policy.

Why?

Not because of any kind of democratic process or anything, but because it’s completely unenforceable.

They’d need Hans Landa style raids and shakedowns to check that what people are putting on there is accurate. It simply wouldn’t work, compliance is impossible.

Do they want to do it though? Absolutely.

So it will creep in through different vectors. Any vendor selling anything above a threshold value will have to doxx the purchaser (or else). Any trade above peanuts size will go into EU level transparency databases. Cash will die.

Crypto is a threat to this extreme surveillance of course, which is why they’re trying to turn every crypto thing into a “VASP” that has to doxx and record everyone’s activity.

The very obvious direction of the EU is centralised ultra surveillance and paternalistic regulations for basically everything. Digital IDs pointing to aggregated centralised data sets and CBDCs are the very real and near target. They’d roll it out today if they thought it was feasible. They’ve been working on the tech for years.

Will it stop money laundering?

lol, obviously not."
