My guess is managing their node with all those users is a massive pain in the ass. Their node has been super flaky lately too.

To be clear though, you don't have to run any of those "node distros" to run a Lightning node. You can run a Lightning node on any Linux/BSD/Mac/Windows machine

Umbrel, Start9 and RaspiBlitz are each use their own distro. Loading Umbrel on a machine requires that machine to run Debian with Umbrel's spin likewise with RaspiBlitz. Start9 uses EmbassyOS. So you kind of need to run a dedicated machine or in a Virtual Machine on your Windows box with something like VMware or something like that.
