Ive been wondering for a while though if some relays support 3k while most of the rest only support 1k and you are pointed to both in your relay list, will this cause a buggy experience or even for followers to disappear?

For a while, I missed those days too.

But there’s a new class of bitcoiners emerging in places like El Salvador and the global south in general. And they are much closer to the philosophy of the early bitcoiners.

For me it’s super cool to now be RE inspired at this point in Bitcoin history. Because now the philosophy is not just being talked about, it’s being LIVED.

Nope. I tried nostr a yr ago with snort but that was a temp account. My permanent account here was created with Damus and other than my test of primal shortly, this is all I’ve used.

Two other clues:

1. I’m not sure if the relays get flooded or maybe there’s a local memory leak if you do a lot of actions? If I followed more than like 20 people it seems the app really slows down. Maybe that’s when the follows get lost.

2. In general the follow list algorithm seems unoptimized. For example when I go to Jack’s profile and click followers (they start hidden), then the number starts climbing slowly from n=1++ and in his case tops out at like 2200ish followers. He obviously has lot more than that. But it seems like it’s literally doing a foreach loop counting 1by1 until something tops out (memory?)

Damus v 1.7.2. / iOS v17.1.2.

Yup. Followers sticking and slow/broken home feed was the reason I tried primal. Didn’t help much.

Came back to Damus. Heard that adding relays would help. It did help for the feed (still slow but better). But following is still very hit or miss. A rough approximation is maybe 50% stick.

Someone told me to add more relays. That helped for me. It still sometimes doesn’t load. But most of the time it loads now.

Ya I have a similar issue. I can follow people with purple checkmarks (whatever that means) on #damus but anyone without it won’t stick. I tried also on #primal, but my follows don’t seem to stick much better there either. I’m using like a dozen relays but that doesn’t seem to help either. 🤷🏽‍♂️. #noob #plebchain #asknostr

I had a similar challenge.

The self custody wallets I use regularly are not easily used with damus since Lightening primarily works with open invoices. There were workarounds that set up a permanent lightening address but then you either needed to set that up through a centralized account or a fairly complicated work around.

I ended up just moving a small amount into a Damus compatible centralized wallet exclusively for sending zaps. But that’s not a great solution, since it’s kind of against the point of a decentralized social protocol working with decentralized money & payments 🤷🏽‍♂️. So if you find a good solution would love hear it.

I’ve been wondering the exact same thing about these purple checkmark icons in #damus…

I thought at first it was verified users (#NIP05 ?), but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Since I’m not verified but have the check.

I’ve also noticed this weird thing where it seems the only people I can successfully follow on Damus have this icon. Anyone else I follow without it doesn’t ‘stick’.
