I'd say the policies of the current US administration might have a part to play in it, with continually increasing friction at the border, 51st state talk, and the tariffs. No FUD necessary.
I live a short drive from the border and would make a few trips per year usually. I've met a lot of good people in Montana & North Dakota. As it stands I haven't been to the US for over a year now, and don't care to go anytime soon. It's easier now to just stay here and spend my money locally, rather than in a foreign country.

There's other cats for sure, but they are out being cats. Ours would usually live in the barn, or set up homes under the granaries, close to the pest populations. Some would venture to the house, and they would get tamed when we fed them, and they became much more like city cats.
We eventually had cattle dogs on the ranch. Rounding up cattle would be a half hour of running swearing & frustration for 2 humans. With one dog I could whistle and stand there watching while they did the same job in 3 minutes. It was pretty obvious why a wolf at your command was a great tool for a hunter gatherer.
I always think it's pretty amazing how humans took their greatest competitor, wolves, and turned them into allies in a mutually beneficial relationship. Pretty much the same thing with cats, just later in our development when the relationship made sense.
That's true. Probably because ee've been living with dogs for far longer. Wolves were likely the first animal we domesticated over 50k years ago. Combined with the fact they are pack hunters just like us it's what makes them so useful as trained workers.
Cats are better at being solo hunters and pretty much domesticated themselves once we started storing food and grain, attracted by the pests that feed on it. We kept them around because that is a useful skill.
You don't really see it with city animals, but it is obvious when you see the two animals on a farm. Dogs want to be around you, be part of the pack and help, they see you as the pack leader. Farm cats are wild, and you rarely see them. They stick to the places where the food is. Growing up maybe 1/5 cats would become tame and hang around humans. The rest were ghosts.

The fact he treats the whole thing like a movie with real actors, and not Muppets is what makes it so great. He went all in on it and it shows.
