What is on my mind?

Are relays really well connected & communicating with each other? Because it kinda seems like maybe there are some issues on that front... Searching for people seems pretty unreliable, follows & follower count seem like they may be a little on the unreliable side too.

It definitely seems like proper communication across relays would help. If relays could request info from each other in a node like fashion (assuming multiple hop requests could be a thing) then it seems like info might flow where it is needed.

But right now if I'm connected to 10 relays & someone else is connected to a different 10, can we see or contact each other? If not, then doesn't more nodes just make the network worse at connecting people?

Nostr is a city.

It feels nice and peaceful right now because the demographic is homogenous.

Pure homogeneity can lead to stagnation and atrophy since no muscles are being challenged. This is unsustainable.

Twitter farmed engagement from intentionally causing conflict. Strategy of tension. Clearly this is also unsustainable.

It will be interesting to see if Nostr can attract the right balance demographics to survive and thrive.

I've actually been thinking about how decentralized media storage would work on Nostr. I'd like to see a way to create a link that doesn't actually point to a specific domain/file but to a media Nostr ID. Clients know when they see that ID to search all the "media relays" for that ID and display the first one that responds. That way media isn't dependent on a single server/site for storage.

Based on Umbrel's latest tweets, I'm guessing that tomorrow Umbrel's app store will add Nostr relays and Nostr clients. That means, those of you that have been wanting to run local clients and private relays will now have a simple few button clicks to accomplish these tasks. This is great!

That said, from a security standpoint, I wouldn't co-mingle my Nostr services and my Bitcoin services on the same hardware. In fact, I don't. Just because it's easy to do, doesn't mean you should do it. If you absolutely have to do it, I would say it's probably *okay* to run a Nostr client on your Umbrel device. I would not run a relay that's open to the Internet though.

Has anyone actually used Nostrogen to generate a 5 letter vanity key? Mine's been running for 43 hours so far. I'm wondering if I should use the command line tool instead?
