Decentralization is a double edged sword. It works wonders to erode monopolies. Not so well for building consensus at scale. Nostr is a bit of a free-for-all in that way. 💛

Honestly. I think of libertarianism as being exactly the mindset that will facilitate the development of sovereign micro economies and decentralized governance.

Libertarians focused on national politics, let alone libertarian styled national politicians, are missing the mark in how libertarianism will be established from the bottom up.

Because individuals are the measure of liberty in society, libertarian politics must be established at the local level through sovereign communities in federation with each other.

Libertarianism IS self sovereignty as a form of governance.

Sounds like oxymoron, until you ask: Would a functional society of free individuals even need or want governance?

Because humans are biologically social yet fiercely independent, the answer is inevitably yes. Humans need to cooperate AND we need agreements to cooperate at scale.

Like it or not, the only path toward self sovereignty is libertarian.

Nostr is gonna need an organized workshop to find consensus on private geoups.

“Private groups on nostr” has so many proposals and proofs of concept by so many talented developers.

Yet nostr still does not have private groups. Why is that?

The problem is that “group privacy” (where members may come and go) doesn’t have an obvious solution in a decentralized “trustless” environment.

Most proposals try to solve the privacy problem by adding another “less bad” problem. None are perfect, yet all are vying for first place “official” nostr approved NIP.

This POC attempts to flood the network with fake traffic to obfuscate group messages. It’s clever, and worthy of zaps, but doesn’t seem scalable.
