Dude on YouTube called "Smarter Every Day" is getting excited about filming self launching grass seeds in slow motion.
I'm excited too. This is what the internet was invented for!

South Melbourne, not far from the market. See toot lower down with a Google map link!
Yes.
Spring cleaning well under way.
You rarely hear about those failures of course.
What manager is going to admit they presided over a $20M failure that had to be "restructured" to avoid shareholders getting wind of the calamity?
What happens though when you push someone into a role that they really really are not suited to?
Sometimes they grow into it, if that's their journey in life. Or... sometimes you end up with a grossly ineffective organisational structure that repeatedly fails at their core objectives while management fails to comprehend why. Eventually ending in termination of the unit.
Goodness I see this a LOT.
Special mention to those folks who bang on about "you're not doing enough", when in fact the problem is they are incapable of recognizing the value in what others are doing.
This is often a huge red flag when it comes to collaborative work. There is no amount of "effort" you can contribute that will fill the holes in their logic.
"Miss Pickett, you over estimate us both."
Found this gem of a Cary Grant film on YouTube. Great characters. Witty dialogue. Preposterous kindness.

Biggest mistake I've made in a decade was agreeing to extend my time working with one particular client that we'd already terminated.
The problems we outlined were never addressed. They simply dug deeper, sucking more and more energy from us. Every prediction we made came true.
Give that time to yourself, not to a client who doesn't value you.
Father's Day is approaching, along with my annual opportunity to ponder what might have happened to mine. Our just delve deep into the story of George Bell, who most certainly was not my father...

I've talked before about the brilliance of free streaming service Tubi, but this article gets it all wrong; it's not great because they say "let's just collect all the movies we possibly can," but rather because some smart nerds there are carefully acquiring great old movies that few people have heard of or that have otherwise disappeared from the cultural consciousness. https://lifehacker.com/what-is-tubi-and-how-to-watch-it-free-1850736811

Great read, and bonus points for the Danger 5 mention. That was crazy good TV when it came out. Quality low budget broadcasting :)
On that theme, if you are looking for some ad-free inspiration, feel free to rummage through my blog on photography :)

nostr:npub1mpwksahqzlafhsc4457qxc48u0x4jfpdxj4rqsgez9dljd9kdt6qth4h3u Just the other day, I heard someone commenting that British prime ministers used to be like whiz kids... at least up until the 21st century. For example, at a press conference, you could ask Tony Blair 5 complex, thorny questions and he could spend 30 minutes expounding on the ins and outs, history, and facts of each and every issue without missing a beat or nuance. But the last 3 or 4 Prime Ministers have been dummies.
I don't know how true that is, but I have been thinking about the dumbing down of America quite a bit recently.

I defer to the wisdom and penmanship of George Monbiot.

Well we were never all that innocent a people. It's not like Gilligan's Island morphed into Lord of the Flies.
But yeah, things are pretty fucked up.

I just keep expecting that people smarter than me will be the people in charge... Only to find out they're also merely humans and equally flawed as myself.
I've held this irrational belief for a very long time and it still surprises me to be reminded of it's failing.
There are no adults in charge.
The entire planet is just one big Lord of the Flies experiment and nobody is coming to save us.
"The Velvet Queen" is a movie about much more than photographers and snow leopards. It's a call for all humans to connect with our true nature as creatures of the wild.

I'm back home now after a month in Bhutan. Still have a few terabytes of pix and vids to crunch. Feeling a little "all at sea", with my head still stuck somewhere between the Himalayas and home.
