the personal cost associated to moving from Twitter, Facebook and the like into a different network entirely, rebuilding identity and audience, is disproportionately higher than moving between relays/clients/apps. that is one of the major accomplishments of the specs you defined. I mean, says so right in your initial proposal.

what has happened by default with social networks is that users migrate or join the networks with more MVPs. ever since IRC channels, the oldest I can think of.

but moving inside the nostr network should be mostly painless, unless you make yourself a subject to a totalitarian platform, which I expect to exist. and even then, as long as you hold your key, you might only lose data. you can pat yourself on the back for that, sir. this lack of friction is what enbolds me to say that people will abandon bad platforms, as long as they have an alternative. your protocol provides THAT, above all else.

I guess your note landed kinda harsh, making it seem like there is "a correct" implementation. Although I subscribe to decentralization, I have strong reservations regarding dictating how "things are supposed to be".

I was under the impression that most nips are optional, and it would be a natural selection process that determines what is, and what is not, a nostr-complete application (as in users abandoning one app, client, or relay, because they don't implement the most valued features)

while one can have overlapping knowledge of both, I think those are, at their respective limits, different skill sets, with different tools and purposes.

but I also think it's mostly industry that really sets people in that way. we end up specializing in one over the other to fit a career path, either by design or by circumstance.

I've known some frontend who were mostly designers who knew/learned how to code in one tool or another, but did not have the deeper understanding necessary to do backend. and I would not trust any of the backend people I know to create a good UX/UI, even though they certainly have the knowledge to figure out how to code it.

well.. the problem then is that the network is not developed to withstand popular adoption. new users bring demands which creates value which foster development of new ideas.

if nostr as is already good enough for you, awesome, keep at it and have fun. build the best features for your needs. but to provide a platform to face off against centralization of user data for the world, that is not enough

for most people, #Nostr provides softer landing to #Bitcoin thinking and onboarding than bitcoin's most valuable feature. it creates a bridge for the most influential and prolific socially oriented user to dive into Bitcoin with less friction and resistance

I wouldn't put it as X people v Y people, though.

these are damands that customers have. it is natural for app builders to try and deliver on those demands. social network so far has been built on top of a incentive system that rewards those enterprises through volume of engagement and ad revenue.

what makes nostr interesting is that I can be financed and can exist in a different incentives system.

I'd wager that until we see new financing, marketing and engagement solutions, people will see more value on a more populated network then in the "morally superior one", whichever you think that is.
