Sorry, my bad: forget not everyone’s as immersed in this as we tend to be.
Read the whole article, it’s not long but I’ll pull a few quotes.
‘In Ireland, Denmark and Norway, changes to the law on legal gender recognition were put through at the same time as other more popular reforms such as marriage equality legislation. This provided a veil of protection, particularly in Ireland, where marriage equality was strongly supported, but gender identity remained a more difficult issue to win public support for.’
‘Another technique which has been used to great effect is the limitation of press coverage and exposure. In certain countries, like the UK, information on legal gender recognition reforms has been misinterpreted in the mainstream media, and opposition has arisen as a result.
The Denton’s document is a strong argument for this being the case.
Especially the bit where she’s combing them out in the garden so that they have a chance to live.
That’s like moving house spiders outside on steroids: at least spiders are big and low-metabolism enough to have a chance of getting back to their natural environment before they starve and freeze to death.
NGL, I’d rather unhappy teenaged girls chanted mantras designed to (checks notes) change the shape of their eyelids and improve their grades than go in for major surgery that will make them medically dependent for life.
I go back and forth between thinking that (that it’s deliberate and planned with an agenda behind it) and thinking that actually it’s just a load of batshit ideas sloshing around in an online bucket and every so often one wave gets enough momentum behind it that it slops over into The Real World and presto, suddenly what is socially acceptable is suddenly changed.

Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished.
Mind-numbing techniques (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, debilitating work routines) are used to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s).
The leadership dictates sometimes in great detail how members should think, act, and feel.
The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s), and members
The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which causes conflict with the wider society.

Sometimes it pays to have big, bad neighbors. Weighing in at about 3 grams, black-chinned hummingbirds (Archilochus alexandri) can do little but stand by and watch Mexican jays 40 times their weight chow down on their eggs. So in the mountains of southeastern Arizona, the hummers have learned to build their nests near goshawk and Cooper’s hawk nests (Accipiter gentilis and Accipiter cooperii). Almost five times bigger than the jays (Amphelocoma wollweberi), the hawks enjoy these birds for lunch. So to avoid hawks swooping down and surprising them, the jays only forage above the hawks’ nests. Thus a cone-shaped safe zone exists below the 20-meter-high hawk nests, extending out about 100 meters, researchers report today in Science Advances. Of 342 hummer nests studied over three years, 80% were near hawk nests—and for good reason. The researchers monitored hummingbird egg and fledgling survival near six active and six inactive hawk nests. Those hummers unlucky enough to be near inactive nests lost all but 8% of their young, while those in a “good” neighborhood had a 70% success rate, they report. Hawks could eat the hummingbirds, but these morsels are too small and agile to be worth the effort, the researchers note.

The RCTA [race change to another] phenomenon is different [to racefakers], in that its [teen girl] adherents are open about their actual origins. Tellingly, the RCTA movement has adopted many of the same terms and tropes that have been popularised by the transgender lobby. People talk about ‘transitioning’. They claim to have known from a young age that ‘a part of them was missing’. They document their transitions in the style made famous by transgender TikToker Dylan Mulvaney and his ‘Days of Girlhood ’series. They post updates on how they believe their appearance and even personality are changing to align with their adopted race.
[…]
Yet, despite the many similarities with the transgender movement, those who want to ‘change’ their race have largely been ridiculed and denounced in the media. The same outlets that celebrate gender transitioning, and who bend over backwards to use preferred pronouns, are far more sceptical about transracialism. Last month, NBC News even called in the experts to confirm that people cannot, in fact, change their race.
It is gloriously entertaining to watch those who adhere fanatically to the ‘transwomen are women’ dogma trying desperately to distance themselves from RCTA. How can those who celebrate people who want to change gender so easily condemn those who want to change their race? Why do those who recognise that it is wrong for a teenage girl to want to manifest ‘monolid eyes’ see no issue with the same girl saying she wants to change sex?

A twenty-something I see content by for convoluted reasons, talking about the IUD:
I’m also mad that this is a problem that only people with uteruses faces. I don’t see men getting an IUD shoved up their dick to kill their sperm, why is it my job to kill them? Get copper implanted in your nuts to fry those suckers, don’t make my uterus do it.
Sigh. On so many levels.
No berries on my little rowan this year (the only inherited plant remaining other than geraniums), but it’s had quite a year what with fencing and wall repairs. May have to prune off some dead bits in the spring, but I think it will make it.
It is weird, but it’s nothing to do with veganism, it’s been popular for decades. Might even be in the Olympics next year.
It is, the heather’s lovely up here.
I saw the swallows flocking, ready to leave.
(Come on, were you really expecting poo?)

I’ve not seen that one, but I like Map Men. One of them also does some interesting ones about linguistics.
Makes you wonder what else has quietly been waved through without people realising. Self ID nearly was (and was in Ireland, thank you Dentons).
I guess when it’s not a police officer, it’s just a “non-crime hate incident”?
Probably, even though they’ve supposedly stopped doing those (or at least been repeatedly told to by the person who is their ultimate boss).
But saying “you look like a lesbian” can’t be simultaneously homophobic and insulting, surely?
Did you know, dear reader, that we are now on our fourth such carbon budget, valid from 2023 to 2027? Did you realise that the next two – up until 2037 – have already been enshrined in law, making a mockery of the next two or even three general elections? Were you aware that all of the consumer-facing changes – in 18 months, no newly built home will be fitted with a gas boiler, in seven years’ time, it will be illegal to buy new petrol cars, in 12 years, you will no longer be allowed to replace your existing boiler like-for-like – have been accounted for in the plans, gravely limiting room for political manoeuvre? Did you realise that any significant deviation from these carbon budgets could trigger legal action from pressure groups?
[…]
Real, Brexit-intensity political warfare will undoubtedly break out ahead of the fifth budget (2028-2032) and especially sixth (2033-37), which will include aviation and shipping, coincide with the ban on new petrol cars and all new gas boilers, a massive, hugely costly insulation drive and require a cumulative 77 per cent cut in emissions.
