Meet Checkers, the queen of.the small flock of really old chickens who.live over at the Basecamp Lodge!

We were gifted old, less flighty chickens so that people staying there can get the homestead ambiance without the rooster.

The flock of four gives us 1 egg almost every day lol.

They are primarily responsible for composting table scraps and eating ticks and chiggers.

There has been a marked reduction in bug pressure since they moved in.

The menu for the Aug 23 cheese experience is done. What does "done" mean?

Well, the basis of the experience is there but since it is a truly farm to table experience, we don't exactly know what will be served beyond this framework.

This is why Chef Kenny is on site as our culinary guide.

Somehow my gitmo mug made it into the rotation today. Getting some seeds into the garden this morning, sending the Monday mail, prepping the show, confirming roof replacement details, doing the show and shipping coffee.

The day overflowed.

We are redesigning the coop to have food and water in a screened area outside but the nighttime feeding really helps motivate them to go-to bed!!

Coffee or ducks? At the Holler, the ducks always win.

Watch Tactical walk our duck army to bed — because sometimes “quiet time” means feeding, herding, and closing the coop door. That’s homestead life.
