Might be a generational thing where the old OG Internet folks took it for granted that once you put something on the Internet it’s public and the Internet never forgets. The assumption is that the Internet is open and the protocols work that way.
The web 2.0 etc. closed paywalled generation is used to have Snaps, FBs etc that are all moderated and closed sites. Coming from that mindset you would assume that not everybody is entitled to your content and you have a say who gets to see and interact with it.
Here’s an exhibit that sparked these thoughts 👇

The article is worth reading even though it’s a bit longer one.
”Only around 10 percent of the Russian populace reported experiencing a feeling of moral guilt, which may have accompanied the initial shock, both two years ago and today That there is no direct empathy for Ukraine remains within a large proportion of the Russian population….
No matter which war we look at and which involves Russia's participation, Russia's position has always been that we are defending ourselves, even as everyone else thinks Russia is on the offensive…
that in order for something to change in Russia, it is not enough to replace only the Russian elite, but the entire Russian people must be replaced….
it is not Putin who imposes his will and desires on the Russian people, so to speak, but it is he who reflects the expectations and perceptions of a very large proportion of the Russian people…
no recognizable form of liberalism can be expected in Russia for at least the span of two generations, that is, around 40 years”
”It would be the first time businesses in mainland China and India have been hit by EU sanctions.
The list of companies under sanctions will hit 643 if it is approved.
The new names also include businesses in Sri Lanka, Turkey, Thailand, Serbia and Kazakhstan.”

Building bridges is not always appreciated
”With our energy bills, we are indirectly financing a heinous war in Ukraine,” she told the press.
In 2022, Austria imported gas to the tune of some €7 billion. In 2023.
…And local energy utilities in Austria, most of which are part-owned by municipalities or cities, are all too happy to snap it up.”
”If decels had a face in tech, it would be Big Tech employees, the defanged, corporatized version of the hackers and outcasts who once inspired the tech industry, now imprisoned on motivational posters aimed at self-loathing managers.”

”It is also too late for American credibility, in Europe and elsewhere. Seven decades of bipartisan attention to national security have ended in a partisan tantrum. If it can happen once, it can happen again….

”The machine learning algorithm will take into account a variety of signals, including how many people are talking about a given topic and how many people have engaged with posts on that same topic”
And it has and is a hard sell.
Gmail did not get mass adoption by talking about SMTP or other technical stuff. It gave the email on the go (away from your home/work desktop).
If Nostr wants to reach regular people it needs to speak their language. They don’t want to hear about protocols etc. They just want to talk to other people and use something for it that works.
If they are curious they will dig deeper but most are not. They don’t investigate how FB, Snap, IG or any other app really works.
My point was that I did not find a single article I could point to that would say try it, it’s fun, it works and it’s better for you than the alternatives. Here’s how you get started in no time, easy-peasy.
Alternative to Facebook, Twitter and the rest.
