I see, so the answer is the kind 31338? Both fanfares.io and npub.pro could both become RSS bridges sourcing from people's 31338 events instead of kind 1, and publishing a podcast could become a thing that doesn't require a platform, you just publish events and later you use any bridge out there to provide an RSS feed -- until podcast players start connecting to relays directly instead of using RSS (there is a PR to AntennaPod already, we just have to change the kind number and event format).

I'm not interested in the Lightning-gated stuff for now, and I think that will be the last thing someone publishing a podcast will worry about, since podcast players won't support it, but I think in the future that could become interesting too.

Few people know that the original web was designed a decentralized space where everyone could browse and edit thei own pages. The original browser, called worldwideweb, was a browser/editor, where anyone could make edits to the web as well as browse the web. What happened next was that VCs removed the editing functionality and created web based silos which locked in the users. We now have a chance to add back the decentralized functionality to the web, returning it to its decentralized roots.

The problem with that is that we had a purple check sort of thing (and still do in some clients) that was based on Nip-05. It is sort of a verification of your name on a specific domain name but people give it too much weight thinking it means there is only one of a person with a check mark. So it’s ended up being confusing.

I don’t have any really good ideas. It’s something I want to start experimenting with more soon.

The most underrated perk of #Nostr (specifically the lack of algorithm) is that you are not punished for posting external links.

On X, Instagram, and all other centralized social media platforms, anytime you post a link to ANYWHERE off the site, not only is that post's reach crushed, but future posts are demoted as well, as your entire account gets put on the algo's "naughty list" for directing people off-platform.

Think of how many awesome sites, resources, personal art/blogs etc. across the internet have NOT been shared, as users are bludgeoned into bending the knee to this tunnel-visioned way of communicating.

It's a silent attack on perspective decentralization, and people's ability to share high-signal content by independent creators who've made the personal choice to curate their content in a more sovereign location, apart from any particular algorithmic prison.

A really bizarre issue. But I think it might have been just my phone. I rolled back to build 309 and it was still having the same issue. Updated back to latest and did a power cycle. Now all is well. So not sure if some weird cache or what. But all seems all good now 🤙

I think there is a conflation between enforcement ("How can I stop this") and ethics ("Should be we doing this"). You cant stop racism, but you can call it out. Definitely on nostr there are those that will want to post exclusive content on relays THEY choose. Perhaps a community relay, like a facebook group relay. I'm saying that data ownership should be respected, and people own their own data. You might not be able to stop it, but you can call it out. We have a web of reputation and trust already. Things like "antizaps" (negative zaps) are going to be quite important to call out bad actors.

I normally work on a different principle. So firstly I make things I want to use myself. And preferably that I can recommend to my friends. Many of whom are non techie. So, for example I can recommend bitcoin, because it's fair, innovative, and a level playing field, as far as possible, imho. Could I recommend a service where the norm is to take their (possibly exclusive) content and posts it elsewhere? No, that's not OK. Nostr was built as a small corner of the web that tried to aspire to be a bit better. So just because, say OpenAI are doing bad things (thanks for pointing it out, btw), doesnt mean it should translate to nostr. A reasonable user expectation would be they publish to the places they want, and if others republish that, they need consent, or user can be unhappy. Nostr itself says nothing about storage, replay attacks, or republishing, it just transmites, notes, and other stuff, from one user to another. Basic cypherpunk principle is not to harm the user, imho. Whether or not republishing does, is something that can be debated.

Tricky, but maybe. AP is an inbox and an outbox. You can use the mostr bridge and ditto for that.
