Conflicting feelings about the OpenAI situation. On one hand GPT-4 is one of the most impactful products ever created. On the other hand, Worldcoin.
Is there a line between certitude and stubbornness in predictions? Probability does not care, it’s only the outcomes that matter.
Yeah… Incident, Notice, Important Update, all forms of “someone has stolen your data”
Anytime you get an email from a company that includes the phrase “Why are we making this change?" it's never a positive sign.
Gotcha. Yeah I did the same, iCloud works really well for sync. The fact that the format is open makes me less worried about getting trapped. If I needed to go cross-platform the Git sync plugin looks like a reasonable option as well.
Big fan of obsidian as well. What route did you end up taking for sync?
Totally agree. I’m not even remotely concerned about AI turning on humans, I’m more worried about humans in a constant state of distraction and confusion leading to total indifference.
If we're headed towards a world where anyone can generate convincing evidence of anything they want, simple and reliable attestation systems will be necessary. Cointelegraph can post whatever, and it will be super easy to ignore. Nostr combines broadcast + signatures with no need for blockspace, fees, etc....
Nostr provides a way to broadcast tamper proof messages with verifiable signatures. If the SEC wants to release a Bitcoin ETF approval (or any other news of public interest), it should be signed.
Preventing the spread of fake stories like the ETF approval is a textbook use case for Nostr. No signature, no story.
People are using fear of AI as an opportunity to legislate their values into the system. Do not let them.
Ever notice how 'AI alignment' sounds a lot like 'Al with my values'? 🤖🪞
Relays are useful but immutable messages are the most important feature of nostr.
Focus on what people want to do vs. what they’re willing to do and even sophisticated use cases can be made simple.
Key management in nostr has a long way to go but it's based on a very simple design. This has allowed it to gain adoption quickly. It's a bottom up approach, solving problems if/when they surface.
The first DID specification was published in 2018. It's a noble effort where every edge case is being carefully considered.
My take is the DID team looks at nostr and says: "You clearly do not understand, it's not that simple"
Meanwhile nostr continues growing because developers have something easy to get started with.
nostr now has the advantage of developer adoption combined with increasing user adoption. History shows that momentum has no regard for technical purity.
Information wants to be expensive. The only thing that’s free is entropy.
"I'm lost." typed the boy.
"Look for patterns." the computer responded.
"How many?" typed the boy.
"Not too many." the computer responded.
Thank you Justin, utxo, and KidA. I'm grateful you took the time to read this message and acknowldge it. I don't find our interaction void of meaning. I don't secretly wish you would have paid me instead.
We went from money distorts the signal to money is the signal rather quickly. Maybe it’s not that simple.
Playfulness is reciprocity. Engagement bait is sending 1mm zaps.
