never fight a man with a perm
i have a feeling people who drive when they could walk or bike don’t because they’ve been skipping leg day
soon! been working on another project last week and this week, back to silent payments on thursday.
seeing lots of review comments to address 😁

We're delighted to announce [Josi Baker](https://github.com/josibake) as our
newest LTS grantee.
Josi will receive long-term support from OpenSats for his continued work on
Bitcoin Core. His work will consist of pull-request reviews,[^fn-reviews]
supporting major release cycles, and his own contributions.[^fn-prs]
[^fn-reviews]: [PR reviews by @josibake](https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pulls?q=is%3Apr+reviewed-by%3Ajosibake)

In the next couple of months, Josi plans to work on the [libbitcoinkernel
project](https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues/27587) as a reviewer, tester,
and contributor. The `libbitcoinkernel` project is an attempt at modularizing
the Bitcoin codebase and extracting consensus logic into something other
applications can reuse. This has a number of benefits, namely improved testing
and code separation of consensus code within Bitcoin Core and enabling
application-specific programs to be written outside of the Bitcoin Core project
with increased confidence these applications will be in consensus.
In addition to his work on Bitcoin Core, he will continue to work on [BIP-352:
Silent Payments](https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/pull/1458), focusing on
adoption in wallets outside of Bitcoin Core and supporting mobile clients.
Silent Payments are a privacy and UX improvement for Bitcoin wallets that allows
static, reusable payment codes without address reuse. The key improvements over
existing reusable payment code solutions are improved privacy for the sender and
receiver due to eliminating the need for a notification transaction and no
additional cost for senders. The proposal also separates sending and receiving,
which enables broader adoption. These improvements are particularly relevant for
activists wishing to use Bitcoin as a means of raising funds in a private and
censorship-resistant way.
The mission of OpenSats is to support and maintain a sustainable ecosystem of
funding for free and open-source projects and contributors, especially
Bitcoin-related projects and projects that help Bitcoin flourish. Regular
contributors reviewing and maintaining Bitcoin Core are critical to the
project's continued success. Sustainable funding allows contributors to build
expertise over multiple years, which is why we introduced the [OpenSats LTS
program](https://opensats.org/blog/announcing-lts-grant-program-to-support-bitcoin-core-contributors).
You can apply for the program here:

y’all are some beautiful motherfuckers, beyond grateful and incredibly humbled ❤️
ser let me zap you so that i may own this beautiful image
(great photo)
had a quick read, not clear to me why you would need BIP47 or something like it (the PR also mentions silent payments).
what is the static payment code used for?
i am a hex0 maxi
one of the participants afterwards told me “i don’t mind the theoretical stuff but i really love when we get into the code” ❤️
really love our bitdevs community
plz stop trying to orangepill people. just be nice and informative if they have questions or want to learn more.
just live different. if people care, they will ask why
great way to decentralise mining
GM PV The bitdev was awesome yesterday. Would love to see a tiny bit more moderation by nostr:npub1uaj9phu5lpxpczm3vaayt46m0yv0pduxzy7z6quwd2uggxue7fmqx9665u. I know you are the consensus type, but at some point we need to move on. OtherwIse the core might be run on two different networks 😉 The content was very interesting and some Milk Sad details were fun at the end. Thanks for all the PoW of the fellow organizers Ruben Samson, nostr:npub1s6z7hmmx2vud66f3utxd70qem8cwtggx0jgc7gh8pqwz2k8cltuqrdwk4c and bitonic. It was amazing to see some guests who are doing fantastic PoW, but unfortunately couldn’t thank personally for what they do. Probably missing some tags here. Until next time.
great to see you there! got off the rails a few times last night but i think overall we had some great discussions. love seeing people engaged in the conversation 😁
ah, gotcha. helpful context 😁
i think we should be abstracting away from the address as much as possible, in favour of qr codes or bip21 uris
the best UX i’ve seen thus far is a qr code that you can long press to get the uri with the amount and reason filled out.
actually showing the address (and showing it without the amount, blegh) feels like an anti-pattern to me
whoops, here’s a clickable link: https://hrfbounties.org
HRF is offering a 2BTC bounty for a mobile wallet that supports sending and receiving silent payments, without requiring the user to run a full node or give up privacy to a server!
more info here: hrfbounties.org
this is bigger than silent payments, tho! current support for private, trust minimised backends for light clients isn’t great, and i’m hoping this bounty helps us make progress in this area.
if you’re interested in working on this, feel free to reach out!
