The support and encouragement Iโve received from this post has been outstanding. For everyone who has donated or offered words of advice and offers to assist with the node migration, I canโt thank you enough.
Between the Geyser and Nostr zaps, weโve already reached nearly 50% of the goal in just two days. There is also a private offer from a single entity that will cover the remaining amount.
Before I proceed with the hardware purchase, I also want to say that I have listened to all of the feedback Iโve received, both publicly and privately, especially from those who raised concerns about buying an Umbrel Home node-in-a box as a replacement for the current Raspberry Pi hardware. My initial reason for this was to make the transition seamlessly and minimize any potential downtime on the 60 channels I have open, mostly with other Nostr plebs, who are the reason nostr:npub1hxfkcs9gvtm49702rmwn2aeuvhkd2w6f0svm4sl84g8glhzx5u9srk5p6t exists in the first place.
That said, I ran a poll yesterday asking whether to proceed with the initial plan or build a new DIY node and to migrate the existing channels. The results were 85% in favor of the DIY direction.
I helped start this community because I wanted to learn how to become a better noderunner, and not to take the easy path, because as bitcoiners, none of us are taking the easy path. If we hope to set an example for others to follow, we need to always show our proof of work. The process will take longer, the road will be bumpier, and we need to be willing to take calculated risks to get there.
