I agree with your comments, but "they can't fight" is kind of idealistic. When Apple turns off your access (in the iOS App Store) to nearly 100% of your iOS users, they appear to have the ability to fight!

that’s the initial use case for a DID - take an identifier, resolve a pubkey.
