thats dope, i was a kid playing video games in the late 90s and was moding Playstations and cell phones in the late 2000s. i only recently started diving into IT/web dev in the last couple of years for a career change. freedom tech is inspiring me to go hard.

The US Surgeon General has decided that social media needs warning labels similar to the parental warnings about explicit music in the 90’s… This is a moral panic which has no basis in science.
nostr:npub1f4faufazfl4cf43c893wx5ppnlqfu4evy2shc4p9gknfe56mqelsc5f7ql has two great articles, one digging in to why warning labels on social media is a terrible idea.

And then another on why Jonathan Haidt’s new book “The Anxious Generation” blames youth mental health issues on social media in a way that’s easy, wrong, and dangerous.

Would you say the same about the warning label that fashes when you open up Pokemon Go? Or Lanier’s book about why you should delete your social media accounts? I’ve cited some of the reasons in the book to my friends when getting them to come to Nostr lol
Stop raising awareness already!
It’s time for activists and organizations to adopt a more strategic approach to public interest communications. Open protocols like Nostr and Activitypub are a prerequisite for creating resilient media that channel people power into action!

the most disrespectful thing you can do to an animal after killing them for food is not prep it correctly for consumption. that means clean, tenderize, and season people!
this felt personal 😆
I really like this "ultra-processed content" idea from Cal Newport. He compares it to "ultra-processed food". To me any social media app built around “content” is a red flag. Not that content is bad, but it’s a hyper-capitalization of entertainment. It doesn’t have much to do with building healthy social structures. The healthiest food for your social self is being in relationship with other humans and good social media should encourage this. https://calnewport.com/on-ultra-processed-content
"what is a tik tok dance mash up if not a digital dorito?" 💯
