Some people think AI and AI chat bots are all hype. They couldn’t be more wrong.

Thousands of tasks can now be automated or at the very least done significantly faster with much less effort and by fewer people.

Unlike humans, AI systems don’t get tired, don’t take vacations, and don’t single task. They can access vast amounts of data quickly and find the parts that matter. Reporting, presenting, what used to take hours now takes seconds. Combined with other forms of data connected by plugins, it’s much easier to surface the right data.

Unlike humans, once trained, AI systems don’t require constant retraining. They scale much faster and cheaper beyond anything a traditional human workforce can accomplish.

Which fields are impacted? No, the better question is which fields AREN’T impacted. Data work, customer service, manufacturing, warehousing, healthcare, marketing, transportation, finance, HR, retail, design, development, are just the tip of the iceberg.

AI touches everything, and we are only in the early stages. My guess is there won’t be a single thing we do that is not somehow impacted by AI. At some point, anything you do, touch and experience will have had an AI play a role in making it happen.

We are in a major shift in the way things are done, on a much grander scale than the industrial revolution.

The next 2-3 years will be super interesting to say the least. If the smart phone could change the world in a fairly short period of time, it’s hard too imagine what AI will do for us in the same timeframe. The world may not be recognizable a decade from now, even though every fiber of your being may deny it.

Really like the product demo through video

Tried Motion* for a while. Maybe a month of honest use.

Way too much upfront friction with planning out projects, tasks, activities.

The friction's mega compounded when you fall behind on maintaining the system. Makes it feel overwhelming.

Upfront decisions are part of a knowledge worker's transmutation of stuff to insight.

Like, that's the main argument that David Allen makes in Getting Things Done.

But GTD is just more flexible - if you fall behind, can quickly catch up. With Motion, feels daunting.

Insight: A good personal project management system needs to assume blackout periods.

Recently, @npub12s5jvjpmulyx3csf87rszp3udjkcnvgh40trv3ywlu737sq4xj9q07t6jr held a number of interviews to connect @npub1lmn3z6en8fjge8dluypcfeh6l8ja4qdwa7kg23p4anw8gnnewdcs0ysc9n community members with #Bitcoin #FOSS projects.

There were a number of insights that are inspiring a new BPC project 🔥

___

The tl;dr

- FOSS projects and contributors have difficulty match making

- We interviewed both sides to this hypothesis ⬆️

- We worked to find the “special sauce”

- Next step is to create an MVP for Bitcoin FOSS + contributor match making

___

The problem?

In our experience, we’ve found that #Bitcoin ers want to contribute to the ecosystem, but don’t know how.

And FOSS projects need help, but often don’t know where to find high quality contributors.

___

We set out to learn what both sides are looking for.

For FOSS projects, they typically want someone to commit 2-6 hours a week to contributing.

And, the main areas which needed assistance are marketing, translations, and project & product management.

___

When interviewing members of our community, we saw that most people wanted to commit 5 hours a week. Roughly an hour a day before, or after, their day job.

Most members came from a project management background, but some product-focused and marketing professionals were interviewed as well.

___

Likely the biggest insight when interviewing community members was their motivation to contribute.

We saw an even split between three categories (value alignment, impact, and career), and people also had multiple reasons for wanting to contribute.

___

During this interview process, we struck up some connections between the Bitcoin Product Community members and #Bitcoin FOSS projects.

- @npub1vh5nvfd8yt3j3neq5zj2vw4h0n3jvtvfjgje6hp9cp7yv8kguarqnsan97 - PM

- @npub17tyke9lkgxd98ruyeul6wt3pj3s9uxzgp9hxu5tsenjmweue6sqq4y3mgl - PM

- BDK - Marketing

- BDK - PM

- Hello Bitcoin - PM

- Hello Bitcoin - Educator

- Accessibility - PM

- Bitcoin Optech - Maintainer

- Two other connections by being part of BPC

We’re super stoked to see more people getting an opportunity to contribute to the broader ecosystem 🙏

___

Our next step is to build out an MVP that connects builders to open-source projects in the #Bitcoin ecosystem.

We’ll be building out a FOSS opportunity board in our GitHub repo, where projects can post what areas they need support with.

Follow the repo for updates: https://github.com/Bitcoin-Product-Community

We’re excited to get this out to the community 🙌

And if you’re interested in contributing to #Bitcoin, but don’t know where to start…

Hop into our discord, meet the community and get involved: https://discord.com/invite/Ff8cAAQN8H

Very excited for follow up data!

What was contributors' experience? And the FOSS projects' too!

Super inspired to keep building.

👋 Hello world! We are the #Bitcoin Product Community.

We're a brand new group and our vision is to create a space for product-oriented individuals to collaborate and drive forward high-impact FOSS & commercial projects within the bitcoin ecosystem. https://bitcoinproduct.substack.com/p/we-are-the-bitcoin-product-community

Back in June of 2022, #[0] and Conor Okus created a discord to provide a space for bitcoin product managers to come together. Since then, the small rag-tag group of Bitcoin PM’s has evolved into a diverse community of passionate bitcoiners from various disciplines.

At the start of 2023, we began holding biweekly meetings to brainstorm and vision-cast what the community could be. Today, we’re finally excited to share with you what we have planned.

To start, our community will be a training ground where new and experienced product-oriented bitcoiners can learn how to contribute to free and open source software (FOSS) projects through reading clubs, interviews of FOSS Bitcoin pms, biweekly calls, and more!

Then we hope to begin connecting contributors to bitcoin projects who need help. (PS, if you’re a FOSS bitcoin project that needs resources, developers, copywriters, marketers, our DM’s are open! We will try our best to get you the help you need.)

Finally, our last two initiatives are to identify high-impact projects for us to tackle as a community as well as to foster collaboration between commercial and FOSS bitcoin projects.

Our vision is ambitious but that's why we need your help.

This is an open call for all bitcoiners regardless of your background, both technical and non-technical alike. If you’ve been wanting to get involved with bitcoin but weren’t sure how, your time is now.

Hop on our Discord (https://discord.gg/3zSYQ8PaJb) and join our calls. Come help us build a vibrant, diverse, and ever-growing community of Bitcoin contributors.

Lastly, we’ll be hosting a Twitter space this Friday (9am PT).

It’ll be hosted by Conor Okus, #[1], #[2], #[3], #[4], #[5], #[6], and other incredible people!
