The average American reads at a middle school level. How is this not considered a national emergency?
For the love of all that is holy, read a book. To that end, I will shoot out into the void a daily recommendation.
This evening; might I recommend: The Trial by Franz Kafka

“As I have walked among the desperate, rejected, and angry young men, I have told them that Molotov cocktails and rifles would not solve their problems. I have tried to offer them my deepest compassion while maintaining my conviction that social change comes most meaningfully through non-violent action; for they ask and write me, "So what about Vietnam?" They ask if our nation wasn't using massive doses of violence to solve its problems to bring about the changes it wanted. Their questions hit home, and I knew that I could never again raise my voice against the violence of the oppressed in the ghettos without first having spoken clearly to the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today: my own government. For the sake of those boys, for the sake of this government, for the sake of the hundreds of thousands trembling under our violence I cannot be silent."

In a country that miraculously rediscovers an endless treasure trove of funds w/n the banana stand for Israel, Ukraine, and wherever the latest foreign adventure is unilaterally deemed warranted; how/when was it normalized to expect the American citizenry to donate our way out of disasters w/n our own boarders?
When did it become normalized for a viewer of an American football game, a presentation that is shamelessly sponsored by intuit TurboTax, to continuously encourage to donate to the LA fires?
To be clear, this is not a critique on the act of raising resources for your fellow citizen; charity is clearly a commendable cause. However, is it lost on the average viewer that corporate media is not so subtlety asking you to pick up the slack for the broken institutions that taxpayers pay into, while simultaneously reminding you every commercial break of this years round of tax obligations?
Truth for All, link to AP News headline, lol.
When both your candidates support genocide, you should think twice.
I was fairly surprised to see these kind of takes on this platform. It’s incredibly disheartening to see proclaimed freedom focused individuals joking about a government extrajudicially killing people.
Setting aside the whole extrajudicial killing portion/ghoulishly laughing at the loss of life; early reports indicate that out of the hundreds injured, at least one child was killed. To that point, even if somehow you’re okay with the whole extrajudicial killing aspect, it’s been reported that some of these pagers were detonated while targets were in heavily populated civilian areas (markets, while driving, etc.) which would obviously lead to innocent individuals being killed or injured.
Of note, one of those reportedly injured was an Iranian ambassador. So, if you’re not a neocon and still hold out hope for deescalation and world peace, this ain’t it.
Exactly. Low IQ and ghoulishAF.
Been a minute, but I’ve read it, as well as The Hole by Hiroko. They’re book super short novellas and worth a read, but neither jump to front of mind when tossing out suggestions.
What’s the backstory on Tina? I remember they used to be on all the pods tossing out hopium on the reg, but I haven’t heard that name in forever.
It looks like nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx hasn't done anything on Twitter since August, though. I need to be there for work, but otherwise I would have left already, too.
So his account still exists, but it's pretty much dead. And he never got the blue check. All that I can respect.
I feel you, but what’s to respect though? Odell is being hypocritical and should be called out accordingly. He is literally posting about judging people for having Twitter, while having a Twitter account, lol. Obviously in a general sense, to each their own, and people (Odell included) can enjoy whatever platforms they like. However, Odell has been extremely vocal about the ills of Twitter. Case in point, have you listened to TFTC the last few months? Odell has been ribbing Marty incessantly about the blue check issue (rightfully so), to the point that their flow has simply seemed off and I started to think they were just ideologically distancing from each other and that Odell might just focus on Dispatch.
All while being on Twitter. Odell is being a hypocrite. Spade a spade.
Longtime freak, but sadly you’re being a hypocrite. I was shocked to learn during a recent TFTC that you’re still on Twitter, regardless of the rationale. As a long time listener, TFTC has felt fractured/strained for the last few months w/you sulking over Marty being on Twitter (albeit over blue check), to the detriment of the flow of the podcast. I’m not mad, just disappointed.
My overall use of Twitter (both Bitcoin Twitter and my normie account) has been waning for months now. After being on the bird app since around 2012, I finally just went ahead and deleted it entirely.
The site has devolved into an unmitigated cesspool. Without actively viewing or searching for such things, my respective feeds became inundated with ads, fight videos, and some of the worst gaslighting political/social takes one could imagine.
It’s inconceivable to me why someone would actually pay money to use their current product. It is unmistakably pumping out bad vibes and fucking with people’s minds.
Shoutout NOFX
Lummis. Hate to see it.
Go watch #Blackberry. Dope soundtrack, captured the era, and Baruchel/Howerton crushed it.
I thought Lummis was based
It’s a combination of apathy, confusion, and fatigue. The mainstream news cycle is relentlessly pumping out something to engender fear, only to then bury it under a new alleged cause for concern, once the original concern doesn’t manifest/the story has been exhausted.
All the while, there’s no accountability if and when a retraction is warranted. So, the masses are beaten down, cannot keep up with the latest fear-of-the-day, and are genuinely unaware of who they can trust/what to believe.
IMHO, this all leads a lot of individuals to tune out or when pressed to simply take the path of least resistance in accordance with whatever the latest narrative is at the time.
