Visiting Germany again soon, and, as always, I bought the public transportation ticket that will enable me to travel the entire country by bus, train, subway, tram, etc. everywhere for 50€ a month. It's not perfect, but man, do I miss the evil European Communist public services cabal here in the US.

I like the distribution part of the electrical grid to be underground. Thats the part of the grid that connects to residential areas.

It is underground for both my US home and my Egyptian home.

Transmission lines are more expensive to put underground, and they go quite long distances. In Egypt’s case, they run between cities across the desert, so above-ground is likely far more economical.

Electricity transmission infrastructure is ugly to many people, but I generally find it to be uplifting. Maybe it’s because of my original profession.

Electricity is one of the biggest quality of life enhancers for people, and so transmission lines give me a sense of development and progress. Distribution lines are often haphazard looking, but transmission lines generally have a bigger and more organized appearance which kind of appeals to my sense of order.

In forested areas they tend to be more subtle/hidden, but in deserts they’re just kind of out in the open.
