Having my second cup of coffee, just the usual heavy cream and cinnamon. We just got back from visiting Hometown Meat Market, and I'm excited to say that we ordered half a cow for the freezer! Their chef was cooking on the patio and I got to try some beef bacon, oh it was so good. Brought a pack of that home with me, along with some beef tallow for cooking. It'll be a week or two for our beef order, and I can't wait. I love supporting good local producers. #grownostr #countrylife #localbeef

If we can just get thru August's weather, mid-September temps should start to ease up a little. Well maybe. We have a large oak tree in the backyard, and I am so glad it's there. During our hot summers, it provides a little oasis of shade near the house, and if there's a breeze it makes sitting out here halfway bearable. Early in the mornings is the best time to enjoy it, but in the evenings its not too bad. I have lots of herbs and other plants that benefit from the shade of this tree also. This is my little oasis, where I can enjoy a cool glass of tea and listen to the birds singing. It's not fancy or extravagant, but I wouldn't trade it for any place in the world. Can you sue McDonald's anyway?

We've been without running water for about 5 hours and counting. Apparently some work crew tore into a water line, and there's no estimate on how much longer we'll be without. We expect outages during the winter, but not so much in warmer weather. Luckily we have plenty of bottled water for drinking at least, but this has prompted me to think about storing more water for emergencies. You never know. #grownostr #homesteading #preparedness
