In the future you may want to quench first with plain water to get the temps down before inoculating. Most beneficial bacteria die at around 160 degrees Fahrenheit. After the quench, you can soak all those goodies in to inoculate. I’m sure the minerals will be adsorbed from those sources but you may need to reintroduce the beneficial microbes.

This would be wicked to see under microscope.

Chicken tractor build update # 5

Today I was able to get the door finished. I really like how this turned out. The shape was definitely a challenge but it made for a wider opening and better aesthetics than a rectangle door. I also got locked in the coop before adding the latch pull wire. 🤦‍♂️

I just need to add the perches, wheels and some way of pulling the thing because it is heavy! Stay tuned for more updates to follow.

Chicken tractor build update # 4

I was able to get some more progress due to the rain postponing my lawn clients. I had to add a few more backer slats (pallet wood) for the tin and hardware cloth. Then, added the recycled tin I got from a barn deconstruction from last week. Added some scrap gutter to the peak from some up-cycled metal from another person. Wrapped the front half in hardware cloth. The only things pending now are a front door, some perches I’ll make from tree branches, and some wheels to make it mobile. Stay tuned for more updates to follow.
