Like what? It just shifts the burden elsewhere and puts more centralization on nostr

lowers relay resources, no cp risk

yes the centralization is bad

i might get my dick sucked while listening to thank god for nostr

nostr:npub1ks4j70qusuv7hnaqcrr3azks95fxjpz4sx29sy9h35z3vltwaunsmdx88p I think this really highlights the ActivityPub design decision to centralize around instances instead of decentralizing down to users.

By default the experience is subject to the moderation decisions of an instance operator unless the user decides to opt out by giving up the technical and other advantages of the instance and making his own.

Sounds like nostr goes the other direction, letting the user be in control from the beginning, adding in others’ moderation assistance if they want.

In my personal opinion, the ActivityPub instance orientation was the wrong decision with this being just one of the downsides, but the horse is out of the barn now.

The history of technology is littered with better options being left behind as mediocre ones were in the right place at the right time to reach critical mass.

Not hosting images is retarded too. Makes no sense to rely on third-party tools and requires more management and configuration .. uneeded complexity for admins.

not hosting images solves a lot of problems

there will always be trade-offs. I just want everyone to get off the platforms and pick a decentralized option so that I can have one account and communicate/share with everyone. BlueSky, Nostr, etc. instead of adopting ActivityPub, everybody thinks they can do better and it's all just fractured. Ugh

bluesky is dumb imho like activity pub

yep its fractured but nostr can solve it

you want one account? one id you can use on an ebay? a twitter? a reddit? github? linkedin? or anywhere you might share share social info? this is what nostr is for

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA-jiiepOrE

nostr will leverage network effects never seen before, its so fucking cool

Yo don't see the spam? Your client must be filtering. It's really bad.. so many of Chinese porn posts

nope, yep there is filters, currently not using global, is porn spam?

there is more than that, there is delegated distributed moderation via reports, mute lists, web of trust, keywords and some algos, also ip filters

we got lots going on on nostr

onboarding is still rough but the solution to that is obvious with a market of lists and algos with apps using safe defaults for new users

i recommend for nostr amethyst, available in appstores or

is this impossible on nostr? or are you just expecting most of the people who like the moderation that also allows for this crap, not to join nostr?

you need to understand how nostr works

we sign messages with encryption and thats basically it, how and what messages we get and many other beautiful things are being worked out, but the basic principle is signed messages where you own the keys not someone else

those messages once signed are free to go anywhere, and via the wonder of math we can know who signed it

you own your id on nostr not someone else, each message is provable to belong to someone, you dont need any server to prove anything

i disagree as science does say what is right and wrong with facts tho you are obviously refering to morals which i am sure it can go into too

either is free to talk on the other

science is or can be a religion, tho obviously this point depends how we define either

nostr:npub179le7mlcuwj7l9dm6gy4seutqgvd7fwj2w35shm4dkr4te3q36ksd3lf56

And is fucking dumb slots a good idea?

No! The spam on nostr instantly makes fedi better and more desirable. There has to be similar features

nostr doesnt have a spam problem

rather than similar features i would like better

not sure on that as i think the fedi will become irrelevant

nostr:npub179le7mlcuwj7l9dm6gy4seutqgvd7fwj2w35shm4dkr4te3q36ksd3lf56

Wrong

You need a way to prevent and manage spam . The spam situation is terrible on nostr and the Frontends hide the problem and backends don't do shit

The nostr relays get abused with spam

If someone links or posts CP, you have no way to deal with it. You have no way to set your own rules for your relay. As nostr grows, users will be effectively DDOSing every instance

Install any fediverse software and look at the management capabilities. It's needed

your prev post didnt mention spam?

spam is near non existent on nostr for me? dev moves quick fren

tools are improving some relays do handle spam

cp , nostr relays are text only currently, for media we will use something else like iroh

they can do that here too (by running your own or joining the dark fedi etc) but is there a way to have someone handle it for you like joining a more moderated instance here? I want there to be more middle ground instances that don't block for bad opinions but does deal with assholes.

dark fedi?

on nostr yes you can delegate moderation to others and there is web of trust, moderation methods will improve a lot more on nostr as it allows so many possibilities

nostr handles spam fine via a little thing called distributed moderation and web of trust
