Control issues and perfectionism are among my many neuroses. Twitter Diaspora. I swear a lot. I do drugs (the good kind). I'm a socialist. I studied art in school. Beyond that: US Politics, environmental conservation, mental health, organic gardening, and my employer Ramses, That Damn Cat. Sometimes I have really shitty takes. He/Him/Michael/Arrogant jackass. Wearing white socks should be classed as a crime against humanity.

Sorry, but not sorry if you wear white socks. I'll see you at The Hague.

Okay.

She won't eat the lysine treats and she gets really bitchy when I crumble them up and mix them in with her chicken in'a sauce wet food. So, That Damn Cat ™️ will be getting lysine gel that I ordered just last Saturday smeared all over her stupid little hands. She won't have a choice, and she's gonna feel much better for it.

I kinda figured it was on the teevee. People on Twitter used to annoy me, too.

I think the important thing that we all must consider is whether this Brandon character is going to use the mud to fashion bricks and build a home for his likely not quite 90 day old fiance.

Let's stick with the shit that matters here, people!

I have absolutely no idea what 90 Day Fiance is. Normally, I would just mute that hashtag because things I don't understand thend to frighten me. But I'm really enjoying this out-of--context play by play.

I think we should get high.

Let's get high.

Let's get high and bake some bread.

I feel like folks are more honest here. I'm sure it's all an act to some degree, at least it is on my part. The paradigm here just seems... less performative.

While it isn't airtight, I think the patience, perseverance and learning curves are organically maintaining that healthier atmosphere on Masto. Trolls don't wanna have to work to troll; Masto -in fact, the whole Fediverse- like many good things in life takes work.

I think it was bold of you to make phyllo in the first place. Nice!!

Let's make some damn bread!

It's been fermenting in the fridge for seven days. I think I'll do pan de cristal with this one. I want sammiches.

You're right. I guess we couldn't take the sum total. I just realized my assertion really only applies to "western" societies. Which is gross. Now I feel gross.

TIL the word senesce! Thanks!

It gets so daunting towards the end of July and stays that way until mid-September. I think that happens to a lot of us.

I'm not giving up yet. I plan on keeping things going as long as possible. I've even got hoop houses. it's just going to be a massive surgery that has to happen after a week and a few days of neglect and ALL THIS RAIN. There are sand spurs out there. 😫

I would argue that society -taken as a sum of all human societies- has gradually liberalized ever more as time goes on. We have steps backwards, and of course there are pockets like Russia and the DPRK et. al. that drag the average down, but I think (condescending or not) the arc of history leans towards 'little l' liberal. Even in those two examples, there are at least some individuals who have things and freedoms we would associate with a liberal society.

Hmm... That's annoying. I run a sweet red under water and rub back and forth in my hands until the skin is all gone.

Do they not peel like a roasted sweet red? I've never roasted a poblano.

Did you already clean it up? I'd like something for scale, if possible.

It ~is~ insane that I can buy fresh strawberries in the South East US in freakin' February, and they only be marginally more expensive than those I can get in season. Somebody is getting robbed along the way from greenhouse (likely in Canada) to my produce section, 1000 miles away. I suspect it's the farmer.

I think it's futile to expect the powers that be (government, legacy media, &c.) to call it for what it is, whatever their dumb reasons.

I read an article recently that described a socialist model for the economy that advocated for hub-spoke style, regional way to manage resources and it struck me as something that could work well (and be accepted by mainstream society) for food production.

It lacked, I think sorely, any discussion of a wider distribution model, though. Not necessarily trucking in fresh produce, but those tomatoes should be canned where they were grown for nutritional density as well as economy.

I think we need this kind of shakeup and a return to a lot more locally produced food.

I need to review what is available locally again. There is one shop that does weigh stuff, but it seemed expensive to me, like it was a cool hip thing to do, which is sort of missing the point.

This is to say nothing of the inevitable politics, and I'm by no means an expert in the field, but I have seen a lot of evidence that a local (let's say 100 mile radius=local) model would work in a vast majority of places in the US. I'm surrounded by farm land where I live, so there are farm stands all over the county. I have a big garden. I'm into this, and going fully seasonal was an adjustment. Transitioning to eating sustainably (by the season) will be really jarring for most folks.
