A dazzlingly average intellect. Atheist, Free/Libre and Open Source Software Maxi!

I would never have even met her. She would not have been able to move here with our current rules. I am not in the US.

And it will keep working for a while. But it will make all businesses and governments more hesitant to become reliant on the US. So I think this strategy is not going to be good for Americans in the long run.

Mandibles

🤮

I have a certain amount of sympathy for why ES had to go down that route to take care of their out of control gang situation. But running prison hellholes for the world in exchange for aid/support is horrendous and morally bankrupt.

This is another step in a completely wrong direction for a country I once had hopes for.

It’s strange how things work out sometimes. I met my wife through a mutual friend who happened to be dating my brother at the time. I was invited to go with them to the beach one weekend afternoon. I really didn’t want to go, it was a long drive and I didn’t feel like swimming or anything. It was mentioned that another girl would be coming along but I knew my friend was trying to hook me up and I was annoyed more than anything so I said no. Then as they headed out the door, I thought.. well, what the hell else am I going to do today? So I said, fine, I’ll go, give me a minute. We pulled into her driveway and she came out of the house. I was instantly attracted. We spent the rest of the day talking non-stop. I could not believe she was into me as much as I was into her. No one has ever shown as much interest in the past. I managed to get her email address.. because I was too dumb to get the phone number lol, but things ended there. We didn’t speak for another week, but I could not stop thinking about her, so I finally sent an email. To my shock, she replied within minutes saying she was thinking about me and wondering if I would contact her. But.. it wasn’t looking good, she had to leave the country to go back home. I couldn’t believe it.. here was someone I had a huge crush on and they were leaving the country .. not the city, not the state, but the continent ffs. We were both very young so it wasn’t like we hopped on planes whenver we felt like it. Things were different. Long story short, we kept in touch for weeks and she decided to come back and study in US again. I don’t know if I was part of that decision, but I suspect so. US was my naturalized home and I like to think we both moved half way around the world to find each other through an odd chance encounter.

Alright, back to your regular programming…

So with the current administration's views on immigration you would never have met your wife?

I am in the same situation. The wonderful woman I am with would not have been here for me to meet if the current government in my country had been in power 10 years ago.

Strong morals and ethics do not derive from religion, they are inherent to evolved human thought. But religions have co-opted morals and ethics and like to claim that you have to be religious to be imbibed with them from "god".

When you say you want to live in a Christian society, I would posit that you want to live in a moral and ethical society.

Drop the crutch of religion and stand on your own. Or keep the crutch, but recognize it for what it is.

Really?! I have much more of a love/hate relationship with them. People tend to misuse them heavily.

Once worked at a place that had repo A that included repo B that in turn included repo A. My recursive clone before leaving for the day did not go well...

I was hoping to learn something. I care about understanding. But I will get on with my life...

As an atheist I am genuinely curious about this. Do couples actually pray together? And what does that entail? Praying aloud together?

The idea gives me the creeps, tbh... Is this just a statistic that says that people married to controlling religious psychopaths do not get divorced?

Yes, I may have a bias 😂

How does this apply to Twitter? Bluesky? Nostr?

It probably went exactly as planned. Wishful thinking from bitcoiners was not planning.

Well, at last he freed Ross.

What happened to "Don't trust, verify"?

Trusting in some old book or belief is, to me, the ultimate appeal to authority cop out.

I have no beef with personal religion, only organized religion.

I'm European, watching this in disbelief from a distance. Knowing that his bs will likely mess things up here too.

But yeah, I'm all right...
