I find it fascinating, and frustrating, that the YouTube algorithm thinks it knows what I want to watch; and is inevitably, and persistently, wrong.

Or it just knows what it wants you to watch and not really anything about you
Spotify fails miserably for music. I have actually discovered more music on youtube. But for other content I agree.
It also helps to get suggestions from people on Nostr about random songs in Bulgarian that keep the algorithms thinking our taste is so much more sofisticated than what it wants to feed us.
For me it works amazingly well; however, I have to keep it in its toes.
Especially after clicking on anything political, I have to feed it a video about consciousness, mushrooms, aliens, train spotting, etc.
YouTube seems to attempt to steer people toward certain topics, and specific levels of quality. It only appears to be loosely based on what you've watched before.
