I think the schools are closing around here because the eclipse is gonna hit about the time school dismisses and they're worried about extra people coming into the county and distracted drivers (student and otherwise) right at busing time.
I was at Polyface for the eclipse in 2017, there was definitely more people in the area just coming to watch.
Meanwhile…all the kids are looking down at their feet as they walk home to make sure they don’t catch a glimpse of that dangerous sun…are walking into traffic.
I remember being a kindergartner during the last eclipse around here and this is exactly what I did. The instruction that you “Don’t look at the sun” when you never would have given it a second thought before, translates into “Don’t look up”
