Follow packs are a nice step, but I'm not currently inclined to use them. What I would be interested in is having them as discrete lists or filters that I can flip off or on.

Say, I'm in Prague, and I want to see all notes from everyone else there. I subscribe to/activate the BTC Prague list. I get the benefit of the content, without having to commit to following. If I like what I see, I can tap another button to follow individual npubs.

When the event is over, I deactivate/delete my subscription to the list.

To be fair follow packs are for newbies.

That's a great idea, though. Would be cool to have an easy way to permanently follow some accounts from the transient list.

Fair point about target audience.

Not just newbies. Anyone on here can use them.

yeah of course but the idea was intended to help onboard new nostriches

i don't find myself browsing follow packs because i have a robust network already, but sometimes i'll find new (to me) accounts from a follow pack

You can make custom lists on honey.hivetalk.org

I was bullish on lists. Unfortunately, lists are another half-baked feature that don't work reliably or consistently across clients.

Same here. So much promise as a feature, but it is ignored.

nostr is currently a twitter-copy clients monopoly

great features that don't get implemented to those copies won't get any daylight and are being left for dead

sad but true

So just ditch it completely, right?

I never said or implied that.

I've tried using them in a handful of different tools. Notified the devs of issues they have, and why they don't work. Eventually becoming bored of it. So I just ignore them now. Maybe someday they will be fixed.

This isn't a comment on your tool. I've never even tried it. I'm fact I didn't even see your message before Shawn's, it wasn't showing in my client earlier. I was responding too him.

I am super curious to know why they don't work.

If one is using the same relay(s) to consistently post and read the follow packs or lists, why can't it work?

List names created with some tools show up as gibberish on others.

Lists of users created with Nostrudel are filled with duplicates.

Client support is severely lacking. Being able to view lists but not add or remove people is common.

It's a great idea, but the support, and especially compatibility over the whole ecosystem is lacking. I tried for a while to find a combo of tools that worked, but it was always frustrating, and never worked quite right.

I've been using Nostr since Feb 2023, I've got a pretty good handle on how Nostr works, even running my own WoT relay. I'm willing to look past little bugs because Nostr is worth it. But lists need a lot of love before they are usable. More integration in clients, and properly displaying their names & contents between different apps would be a good start.

I'm not sure. I've tagged him directly in the past about it with no response, and also have brought up my various issues with elsat, and they noted it in the nostrabilty GitHub I believe.

I just checked and Nostrudel is still the same. It seems like any time I add someone to a list the entire list gets concatenated to the end of the current list. For instance this list. Displays with a gibberish name in amethyst, and is filled with duplicates for some reason.

nostr:naddr1qq2nj335tashz6ps0fh9wktdgd2rz6tv94cx6qg5waen5te0xyerwt3s9cczuvf6xsurvwf0qgsda2memtapc2lykjnd8t9px4ake2stw39lg6k49xj6u3jz3pteu6qrqsqqqafsrg3w3w

Oh how weird. Somehow my lists on nostrudel all look ok. I used listr for some, hive for others or manually constructed and broadcast. Anyway thanks for your detailed input

I've never been able to get listr to work properly. I've created a few lists in other tools, Nostrudel & Nostr.band. None show in listr.

🤯 what signer are you using?

Nos2x

I just tried hive talk, there I see the gibberish names, and still the duplicates. I think nostrmo is the only app where they show correctly, without the duplicates.

nostr:nprofile1qqs0sgghn02adywxrdp4vvmr3zk6ms7vzvz0f8nhr2ru8r08a48aqgspzfmhxue69uhhqatjwpkx2urpvuhx2ucpz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfdus3dctxhe gibberish is likely constructed by wherever you created the lists origjnally, so this old data format probably has some issues, as new lists i see on nostrudel are all pretty clean. Make a new list and see

If its the same

I'll try again shortly.

It's strange because some apps do show the name correctly. In Amethyst the lists are named correctly in the drop down list to select them, but if I add them as an nevent in a note they display the gibberish name.

I don’t know the history of this specific kind but my gut tells me that it may have been revised in between the time that various clients have implemented them so if the format earlier on was one way it could’ve changed for later on

And now the old lists aren't showing in Nostrudel, using the same relay set as Amethyst 😂

This is what I mean. I've spent hours trying to get lists to work and it never does. 🤣

😂😂😂

I knew there was a good reason to download amethyst for testing this week. Hold my beer

A new list created in Nostrudel, named "test list". No duplicates on this one.

And this is what a prior reply looks like in nostr:npub1yzvxlwp7wawed5vgefwfmugvumtp8c8t0etk3g8sky4n0ndvyxesnxrf8q Android. We are so early.

Thanks for the feedback 🙏

Step by step

It’s on the todo list 📋

So lists are completely useless, ditch them entirely? What is the best tutorial for WOT or another option to handle list like features in your opinion?

you can save the follow pack as a feed in primal now, without following the people in the pack

Nice.

Is it possible to create follow packs in Primal?

not yet

it is an open spec, so i use https://following.space to create and maintain my packs

Help me out here. Where do I find this? Where is it located on my primal app. I can't easily find it.

click the right most button on the bottom bar in the mobile app (the explore tab)

Thank you! So it seems like I am confused where to find the follow pack to add to the feeds, which seems to be located where you pointed out. Cos I don't see this follow pack there. Does nostr:nprofile1qqsgqke57uygxl0m8elstq26c4mq2erz3dvdtgxwswwvhdh0xcs04scppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qyt8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytnvvfjx2a3wve6kutcvrqzhm have a tutorial on this? :)

are Follow packs lists, as in kind 30000?

This is a great start, nostr:npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx , but individuals are bias and forgetful. Any one follow lists is only as “thorough” as its author can be.

As far as “the best list” of npubs for a given topic (as nostr:npub1clk6vc9xhjp8q5cws262wuf2eh4zuvwupft03hy4ttqqnm7e0jrq3upup9 ⁤⁣and I have discussed at length with nostr:npub1u5njm6g5h5cpw4wy8xugu62e5s7f6fnysv0sj0z3a8rengt2zqhsxrldq3), GrapeRank is the ONLY algo engine set up exactly to solve for this scenario.

It can easily be extended to ingest follow-packs from all over “your web of trust”, and to output these as a weighted list of the “top recommended npubs on any given topic” … which itself can be made available as a follow pack.

The development work needed (to ingest and export follow packs) is relatively simple … BECAUSE GrapeRank is built from the ground up as an extensible recommendation engine.

I had a chance to briefly share this with nostr:npub1zga04e73s7ard4kaektaha9vckdwll3y8auztyhl3uj764ua7vrqc7ppvc in Vegas, but I’m not sure the message hit home.

GrapeRank is a readymade and extensible algo engine, waiting to be leveraged by any client or relay. Happy to help in anyway.
