HUGE flush of Nameko mushrooms! Anyone ever tried them? This is the first time I’ve ever interacted with them. Very slimy on the caps I’m a little weirded out by it

I’ve grown chestnut mushrooms a few times which are the same genus and also pretty slimy, but they taste super good.

Yeah I saw that, you add em to soups? Not sure how the gelatinous caps are gonna be palatable

They're everywhere!

Nameko is supposed to have fairly slimey caps. I have a culture of them that I tried to grow, but I didn’t have the ability to make it cold enough to trigger fruiting.

They are really good. Amazing in my ramen

Ooh boy! Yeah they are used for making miso soup from what I read

totally

nameko and tofu with red miso is a staple.

worth noting Japanese generally use them when they are small and before the caps spread

I remember this post... is this person still alive? #asknostr

Lmao yes I am still kickin

I live in Japan, they are often eaten in miso soup! They are a bit slimy, as you say, but the taste is mild. My daughter won't eat shiitake mushrooms, but she likes these
