I'm very keen to spin up a knots knode. Trouble is, I'm in the sticks, and have dial-up internet speed.... I'll never be able to sync the database.

It just takes longer. Do hotspot from your phone at night maybe

You dont understand. Best I can hope for is about 8Mbps. That's about 3 GB per hour. :-/

Yeah, that’s pretty bad. See the comments about syncing it at work/friends home.

So 800gb / 3per hour / 266 hours

11 days

Start today and be done in a few weeks with interrupts and pauses.

Why not

Sync it at work or a family members house.

Yes, you can do that. Then you should be able to sync to the latest block height at home in a few hours.

This alone should make the Core devs pause and reassess things, regardless of technical arguments

Is this true?

Should be, you can check more stats here -> https://coin.dance/nodes

It obviously depends what we mean by true in this context though, as someone could easily spin hundreds of node somewhere in the cloud. Yet knots adoption seems to be pretty gradual and consistent, so I don't think we can seriously entertain the idea that most nodes are "fake"

Doesn't it make more sense to compare only >= 27.1

These are not "knots only" people. They're people running one core and one knots to hedge. 50/50 inbound.
