Many solutions exist to host your own media. They're readily available in point and click solutions from Umbrel, StartOS, my node, QNAP, Synology, etc. Why aren't you doing it?

Windows Store. Search for Windows Terminal. It's actually really powerful. I like it a lot. You can start a Command Prompt, Power Shell session, or a WSL terminal all from Windows Terminal. And now that Windows supports OpenSSH you can just start terminal and ssh into your Ubuntu server.
Why would an average person configure their own Synology environment if they can just log into Google account? No sense for them to “waste time” if they get the same thing even faster.
Because Google then has all your Data?

I think it is. Ask the average person on the street why they don't host their data and they'll be completely clueless as to why they should. Google is our friend right?

I think that most people prasie Google owning their data-they for nice recommendations, email works well and is interconnected with GDrive, if someone shares a file with you via GDrive it gets scanned if there are any viruses… shall I continue?
They just trade privacy and security for convenience, that’s all.

I'd say this too. Building your own will always be best. Otherwise I'd recommend QNAP as I used a QNAP device for 10 years.

I think the issue of discovery/search is what holds most creators back. Hard to build an audience with a self-hosted stack. 🤔
