Long socks, long pants. Tuck your long pants into your socks. Check every nook and cranny when you shower.
Ticks are floaters so they typically attach themselves to tall grass or branches they can crawl up from the ground. Most likely you’ll only come in contact with them at leg level.
Thank you, I was informed on how to deal with them if found and areas to avoid, 25yr in the Rockies never saw one. Move south & I am now finding them in my backyard and at the farm.
Our birds freerange and we fenced most the farm off from the deer who are the prime culprits for hauling ticks around. The birds eat any they find and the lack of deer highly limits our numbers.
My brother trimmed trees at a Christmas tree farm one summer and fall. When he got home each night he picked ticks off his legs and other places for about 30-40 minutes. Ticks will rule the cockroaches when we’re gone.
We keep doxycyclene on hand
Interesting i might do the same
In our case wood ticks don't carry lymes (at least so i've heard), its deer ticks that are the problem.
Yeah this is true, my problem is that i have more deer than trees on the farm
Do you know how to tell the difference?
Permethrin is what you want. Spray shoes and pants legs of your outdoor clothing and no more ticks.
Im allergic to permethrin so i use peppermint and lemongrass oil with alcohol in a pump spray bottle.
Thank you both! This is great information
Wood ticks have light brown sides and a distinctive pattern on their backs. They are also larger than deer ticks. Deer ticks are mostly dark and some people have a hard time seeing them because of their size. The immature deer ticks are very small and are most likely to carry lymes. Whenever we get bitten by a deer tick we profilactically take one double dose of doxycyclene
