trying to play around with my diet regiment a little.
how does nostr feel about having breakfast, fasting and caffeine consumption?
what’s the balance that you’ve found work the best for you? #asknostr

Most days my eating window is a few hours around dinner time. Water and black coffee outside’s of that.
Mostly just running on dinner only then?
I’m finding myself becoming lethargic if I do not consume any food outside of dinner. But that might have to do with not enough water consumption and sunlight during that perios of time
Yeah, one meal a day, mostly meat/eggs is what I do. But different people have different metabolisms.
Going long periods without eating pretty much requires keto adaptation. If your body’s cells are not adapted to burning fat for energy, they’ll be looking for glucose that won’t be there, which can cause lethargy, etc.
I first started hacking my diet with going keto before intermittent fasting. At that time I made myself the following rules:
- no more than 20g carbs a day
- except Saturday (cheat day)
- eat as much meat/eggs/cheese as I wanted
I would crave sweets, but remember that Saturday was the day for it. Change “won’t” to “can’t”. That is “I can’t eat that today because it’s not Saturday.”
After a while, keto became my norm and I didn’t need the cheat day anymore.
Years later I read about the Fast 5 Diet and Lifestyle. Intermittent fasting with a 5-hour eating window. First thing I did was skip breakfast. Then pushed lunch back and back until I was skipping that too.
I found the switch to intermittent fasting to be not so difficult, but I attribute that to the fact that I was already keto adapted.
If you want to know more about keto adaptation, macro nutrients, insulin etc., I recommend books by Gary Taubes. Either “Why We Get Fat” or “Good Calories Bad Calories”.
I fast until lunch, only water and black coffee (no sugar) until then. This has suppressed cravings, I'm not super hungry anymore and I eat a lot less. Then Keto for any meals.
+1 — although I’m not Keto, I eat mostly meat.
Agree here too. Black coffee and water till lunch.
Slight addendum to my morning routine, my coffee contains Raw milk 🥛
Been doing something kind of similar, the 16:8 fasting and coffee + water until then
Have to start trying out black coffee, been doing milk and sugar coffee so far
I like Raw Milk because its high in protein +++
Man , everyone on Nostr is flat out on the raw milk , must give it a go .
Doesn’t raw milk cost a lot more, and is only attainable from farmers market?
I've never seen it in the supermarkets , so yeah , that sounds about right .
Yep, from farm/farmers market only. Although my local family grocery store carries it too… it’s absolutely delicious. I’ll check the price next time I buy it.
Does it keep for long , and do you keep it in the fridge or is it the kind of thing that you buy and drink on the same day , and top it up as needed .
Definitely fridge, lasts for a week to 10 days max but never does because I usually finish it much faster 😆
Without regular good sleeping hours it is wasted effort IMO. I'de start with that.
Need to educate myself more about sleep, that’s a really good point 💜
Coffee for breakfast
I only have coffee in mornings, then have my main meal usually between 12-3. Small somethings after that if i'm hungry. But i will let my body tell me when i should eat, works well for me.
Most days, I don’t eat until 2-3pm. Only water, electrolytes, and black coffee before that.
Ideally, I’d like to shift that window earlier and stop eating 5-6 hours before bed but that’s going to be a challenge so I’ve been procrastinating.
