I don’t think algos are bad per se; as long as they are open source and people can verify what they are actually being fed.
Algos are good for discovery.
That’s my 2 sats
Coming soon 👀
User choice and education are the keys to Pandora’s box.
Can’t someone just make the choices for me?
😂 unfortunately this is where our world is at. Maybe if we give them this option, then when they are here we can turn them!
I am doubtful that people even want to avoid a wall-e type future but let’s fuck around and find out
Yeah, and I’m sure they would pick the algos that kept me out of their feed as I go full penis 😂
Word of the wise!

nostr data is open and available for anyone to exploit for better or worse
Not talking about data, but algorithmic feeds.
It's simple. Humans believe THEIR virtue is more virtuous so we continue to repeat the failures of the thing we tried to escape.
We don't want algorithms. But someone will say to us it will be different this time because I am good. So trust me, it will be good for you too.
Just a thought, not a fact.
As long as users and devs keep pushing toward user-controlled and user-definable algorithms then I know they can be useful and less harmful. I see more clients with their own versions of a trending feed using algorithms defined by their respective devs, or sourced from Nostr.band, and that concerns me. Yes, I can choose to use the chronological feed instead, but that’s not good enough. DVM personalized algos, algo marketplaces, user swappable algos, those are the things I hope to see. They’ve all been talked about, and would give users more control and create more decentralization in the area of algorithmic feeds, but haven’t really seen much development in that area.
Because there will be many transparent algorithms to choose from, and many (most?) will NOT be intended to monetize our attention.
Will there? Have you seen that? I have heard it talked about but so far have only seen centrally created and controlled algorithmic feeds in various clients.
