the 🔔 tab in twitter was more or less designed to get people to come back to the app. purely self-serving.
before that we had a “mentions” tab, which served as a place to gather conversations and replies. an inbox for you, of sort.
i prefer the latter. Good to see some clients (like gossip) go back to this.
build what you want! not what the current mainstream apps dictate.

I don’t think he’s trying to destroy it on purpose. I think he’s doing his best, but may be misguided on some aspects

most of the features in mainstream apps nowadays are either dopamine generators or reinforces their business model

Don't forget Report and Quote in gossip or any Nostr clients...we are our own Algos...so make it easier for people to Repost or Quote instead of just Like. Like does not make much sense IMHO in Nostr context.

I didn’t like when it seemed as if liking something on twitter made it more likely to propagate into the main feed than a retweet… but coracle does show a list of liked notes, which does bring some value to them if it stays out of the way.

I went all in on Nostr today. Was lurking on twitter and it was all just "society is ending", "communists are taking over.", constant negativity. Blocked it and pretty much everything else. Nostr is all hope and optimism as far as ive experienced. As a chronic pessemist this is everything I want from a social app. Glad to be here and a part of it.
I'm a fan of clients that have a conversations feed, but I'd also like to see a mentions feed inside the notifications tab like you mentioned. Anything to help facilitate conversations so that notifications are not missed.
Gossip has been designed from first principles, from the data upwards -- i.e. How does the data lend itself to being presented? Usually the answer just falls out. Given that we have 'p' tags, we could filter posts based on whether or not you are tagged. All that was left was deciding which kinds of filtering should be front and center, and what kinds of things are subdued, or even relegated to your settings panel.
If I had tried to copy something else (e.g. twitter) it would have turned out a lot different I think. Admittedly some small ideas were copied, like the idea of having a list of buttons underneath a post.
I intend to change the Inbox switch such that "Direct Replies Only" will change to "Direct Mentions" and include both directly replies and inline mentions like @jack (right now, those mentions are only in the "Everything you are Tagged On" which also includes hell-thread tagging). But this will require content inspection at a point in the code that is currently quite fast because it isn't doing content inspection, so the result of that will need to be cached. Not difficult, just not yet coded.
