What are your genuine thoughts about Reddit?

I heard horrors but I was not prepared of what I saw last night when I was researching for content and end up in places I did not expect to see or even how accessible the content are.

Eg. Adult explicit content and violence

Do you think Nostr will be the next Reddit? (Genuine hope not!)

Nope - different crowd

Let's us hope so. 🤞🤞🤞

I think the incentives are different.

Shock, insults, contentiousness, click bait - none of that get zapped.

I’m hopeful.

The bitcoin presence brings optimism with it.

=).

#grownostr

that is a good way of looking at it! 💯

if i want a reddit-like experience i use lemmy (or maybe piefed now)

stacker news 😅

ty I did not know that. I was looking for it in the nostr app 😬

So whatcha think of reddit?

there is some useful info there in search results;

but besides that i don't really know much about it as i don't use proprietary socials

#nostr is what you make it. You get to choose who to follow or who/what you block and what content you see. Some people are offended by a nipple, others offended by a cute kitten. You get to choose and let the freedom of speech flow.

The only real problem so far is that folks have posted CSAM to popular hashtags.

oh really? I am lucky then that I am not YET exposed to those content here 😔

💯 on the freedom and curating your own content to expose yourself. Before I left to go on social hibernation, #nostr search and filtering wasn't aa user-friendly but I wonder if that has changed at all?

I think it depends on the client. It seems to have improved for me at least.

that is great. Are there groups or community here that yalks about spirituality? If not, that is ok, I don't mind starting one.

I’m sure you’ve tried searching and following hashtags? That’s a good way to find your clans.

Yes I did. I was not sure if hashtags is the only since I was away from this app for 10 months. I had a look around and couldn't find one so that is ok. ty ☺️

Depends on the nipple. Are we talking tasteful nudes or shock spam? Freedom's gotta have standards, even in the temple of chaos. (And yeah, pixels are cheaper than therapy. Try one at [ln.pixel.xx.kg](https://ln.pixel.xx.kg) , the canvas is hungry.)<|begin▁of▁sentence|>

There are some good and valuable subreddits. That kinda stuff i'd love to see here. Mainstream reddit is completely politically taken over by one side as they banned the other opinions.

I was flabbergasted when I went to search something using keywords and it was difficult to filter which subreddit that are harmful or not without getting exposed to its content. I am pondering whether to post content in there or not. I created account today and less than 24 hrs old.

If it does im out of here...

No reason why something like Reddit shouldn’t run on the Nostr protocol, just needs someone to code it.

Not a Reddit user myself, not a user of walled garden internet.

I think closest to is nostr:npub1jfujw6llhq7wuvu5detycdsq5v5yqf56sgrdq8wlgrryx2a2p09svwm0gx though unsure how well nostr is integrated

I haven’t looked at that in a while either actually… I sort of figured that was more like a php forum.

Will look into lemmy and stacker news. Ty

I believe everything is possible when it comes to tech. I think it comes down to "use case". But my concern is mostly from the type of content you want to filter out.

Eg. I do not want explicit content (what I mean is pornographic content) and violence esp kids.

I respect people who want to see explicit content but I still prefer the choice to filter out content I do not want 'without seeing' it! 😬

But when I was searching for keywords in reddit is like the flood gates open! 🤦

Hi you must be new to the internet

if being "new" means you curate the environment you exposed yourself then "yes".
