The Bible is very clear on this “Even if they know, Christ still calls us to forgive (Col 3:13). Our part is mercy; judgment belongs to God (Rom 12:19).”

I won't hit first but I won't turn the other cheek either.

You don’t have to obey Jesus, but I hope that you do

Turning the cheek is a symbol of non-violent defiance.

In Rome, slaves were slapped with the back of the hand- while citizens or equals would be slapped in society with the palm, open and “polite” in those days.

By “turning the check” what you are saying is: “I am not your slave”

Christ demonstrated non/violent resistance to tyranny throughout his time on earth.

It’s Marxist propaganda that twists those stories into wrongful “submissiveness”

Forgiveness is necessary and commanded and important, and setting boundaries and trusting isn't the same as forgiveness.
